Forums - Gaming Discussion - Opinion: Hardcore Gamers Are Not The Majority Of The Gaming Market

Which consumer makes up the majority of the gaming market?

Average 107 87.70%

Hardcore 15 12.30%

Total:122

Harcore and casual. Everyone has their own definition of the two. It's very subjective. Thing is it's true with anyone. Most people who drive a car are not a enthusiast. Same with people who watch film or listen to music. The minority is a enthusiast. True with anything. I see people who call themselves hardcore but only keep current gen console and play the most common games. I have 30 systems 530+ games so does that make me hardcore? I also seen people with 11000 games. So am I not hardcore then? I don't know I don't care. I just know I am the minority of gamers.

So if casual gamers are those who buy a console, what would you consider the mobile gamers?

But I agree

The biggest part of the market are not what you call casual, average, or hardcore. They're on mobile. They outnumber us tremendously.

To be a hardcore gamer you musy be able to play all games.

Nope. You can own a single console and still be a hardcore gamer. If someone owns a PS3 and owns more than 100 games, and averages about 20-30 hours per game, wouldn't you consider that person a hardcore gamer?

So I am a hardcore gamer? Hm... I've always considered myself being rather casual, because I don't invest time into perfecting a game. I take one, play it until I am bored and move on to the other one.

I thin you're confusing hardcore game with pro gamer. You don't have to be great at a game to be considered hardcore.

Read the whole post. You can clearly see I was making a point. People really need to stop taking everything so literally.

Your argument would be more convincing with some stats to back it up and some more solid definitions about what is "casual" and what is "hardcore". But chances are you are probably right.

I read it all the first time. I guess your point isn't very clear, unless you were intentionally contradicting yourself to make the point.

When I said,

"With that in mind, there are people that clock waaaaay more time than me. So it is really hard to label anything outside of smartphone gaming being casual."

It is pretty clear that I was making an example of how pointless it is to try to label a gamer as "hardcore" because there are many different standards. You may have read it, but your comprehension was lacking.

All you did was basically repeat exactly what I pointed out in the first place.
