Forums - Politics Discussion - Day 1 after Trump wins: Racism comes back stronger...

My God this is sooooo depressing to read! Ignoring this like some suggested would be a terrible thing to do, these kind of actions are not okay and must be denounced.

Did Trump tell people to go out and be even stupider than normal? If not then this isn't his fault, yet people are making it out like it is. This is only stupid people being stupid, let's make sure they're the ones punished and not a scapegoat.

Technically he did tell them to do all this. That's what his campaign was about.

Proof? Regardless, telling is not the same as forcing. These idiots aren't being held at gunpoint, they're freely choosing to be stupid.

Because all of the stuff on that Twitter link never happened on a daily basis before trump was elected. Literally we are all racist and it's trumps fault.

Obviously racism is not right, but if you think trump is the cause or the effect for that then you need to do some critical thinking.

Is it that hard to believe? His campaign used a lot of racist and anti-immigrant rhetoric that has a lot of parallels to Brexit in the UK. The UK saw a rise of up to 60% in hate crime (YOY) in the weeks after the referendum (they still haven't returned to the previous years levels).

I'd wait until the official figures come out to be 100% but this sort of rise was on the cards as soon as he won.

People need to fight back, with words or with fists. Not a good time if you're a victim and not a fighter.

I'm sure they're all true. Just like the KKK marching in NC to celebrate Trump's win...

Oh wait, that didn't happen

Or that Muslim University student who said she was beat up by Trump supporters and had her wallet and hijab stolen.

Dang, that was made up too.

Look, I know that there are lot of hateful and mean things being done in the world right now, but there is so much FUD being spread right now. Several of those things in there sound pretty made up too.

I remember a story when an African-American girl claimed that a bunch a "white" guys abducted her and shitted all over her.  It made the national headlines with the support of the Rev. Jessie Jackson.  Come found out that the girl was too afraid to come home late and had a friend to smear dog shit all over her.  The media dropped the story like a hot potato.

It's happening on both sides:

Also see that Hispanic and Black votes dropped for Democratics since the last reelection and rose for Republicans.

You see what you want to see. That goes for everyone, even myself. It's hard to remain neutral but we must all take a step back and realize that everything will be ok.

I'm pretty sure ignoring is not the correct thing in this case. It's the correct thing to do only if you believe racism is justified, in which case there's probably something wrong with your thinking. Just because something keeps happening doesn't make it right and ignorable.

I ignore it in a sense that I walk away from it when I can because giving some things attention only makes it worse.  And  sometimes there is nothing you can do but serve by example.  I know what I'm talking about.  I've faced racism from whites, blacks, and Asians.  In fact, I faced racism from blacks just a month ago.

Really, the best way is to just don't give a fuck. The reason why racists throw pejoratives at minorities is because they know the insults bother them. I was called a communist a few times because I'm of Chinese (actually Taiwanese) descent and I just respond with "eh" as I shrug my shoulders.

so nothing out of the ordinary.
