So, Platina's VGC vote for best Final Fantasy game so far has concluded. I noticed that the oldest game in the series to do very well was FFVI, and that the PS1-era games seemed to be the most popular overall for a given "generation" of FF games. Since the first five games were largely overlooked (collectively, they got 107 points, less than the top four games did individually), it makes me wonder if many FF fans on the site started the series with one of the games released from 1994 to 2001.

So, I wanted to do a survey to see which of the main series FF games was the first any of you played. Since there are 14 main series games to date but polls only allow up to 10 options here, I'm going to have to get you all to type your answers in a response to this OP. I'll take responses for the next two weeks, then post a chart here in the OP.

And I'm including my own first FF as well. It was FFIV. Played the original SNES version back in 1992 back when it was called "Final Fantasy II." Apparently, there had been plans to release the actual NES FFII & III in the West, but those ports were cancelled and FFIV became the second FF game released in America. Needless to say, I was a bit confused when I saw FFVII being promoted for the PS1, but at the time I didn't know that they skipped two NES and one SNES FF game.
