Trailer looks better than I expected, but scarlett just doesnt look right in the role. She just doesn't look badass. As do the side characters like Batou. Don't mean to body shame, but scarlett just isn't very lean. Should have been a no name actress or Emily Blunt.

So, from what I can see they use certain scenes from the first movie, but it is not based on it. The culprit will be the laughing man from the first season of the anime as far as I know.

So, obviously it's its own adapation and universe like the first 2 movies, Stand alone complex Series + 3rd movie, and arise.

I think Scarlett works pretty well here, but I don't like how the thermoptic suit (nude suit) looks. Still, overall, I like the look of it and while the tone seems to be leaning heavily towards action, it seems to be doing it in a way that seems fairly respectful to the source material.

Well, it is similar to the one in the first movie. It's a really thin suit covering the body. In this adaption it looks more thicker with more details.

Japan doesn't care about whitewashing.. why do you?

All in all they need also a selling point and that is Scarlett Johannson. Would the main character be a unknown one, then they would have a risk to get people to watch a strange looking movie like this. People need to have some kind of connection or a feel of security that could work in this film.

It is the "What the hell is this movie? Oh well, it has that Actor in it, maybe I'm gonna check this out" approach.
