This is the beginning of the generationless games that will just keep being updated, sometimes for free and sometimes paid. A lot of games already have all that is needed.
In Nintendos case Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Mario Party, Pokémon, Pokken, Animal Crossing and others kan keep (and update) the base gameplay and add new paid stages, characters and items.

Pokemon is totally different thing than games you mention, we always have multiple Pokemon games per generation, for instance for 3DS we have 3 (6) main Pokemon games, Pokemon is easy money grabber for Nintendo and Pokemon Company, so we can definitely expect more than just one main Pokemon game for Switch.

You mean they will get their own games? Is that what you were trying to say?

If? It will have them. I don´t believe that Nintendo will just release a port of MK8 on Switch.
They will launch an entirely new MK as well as entirely new Smash and Splatoon for it.

They'd be stupid not to do so.

I'll be dissapointed as I hope they do a better job with the Switch.

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

I think it's too early for an entirely new smash and Kart. It seems like they've nearly perfected the gameplay of both games with these engines so I'd like to just see more characters and stages for Mario Kart and a decent Adventure mode for Smash 4.

You know, I've always found it strange that Nintendo far and away has the #1 racing game in Mario Kart and the #1 fighting game in Smash - but haven't been able to get that same large audience onto another racing or fighting game.

If we instead got Diddy Kong Racing 2, F-Zero, WaveRace or even a new, really fantastic new racing IP instead of MK, I'd be fine with that.
If we got a Pokken port or another new kickass fighting crossover (Soul Emblem = Fire Emblem vs Soul Calibur), instead of Smash port, I'd be fine with that. I'd honestly like to see Injustice 2 show up on the platform too.

New MK and Smash are inevitable long term though.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

For some reason I only read MK in the title but yeah.

I think Switch will get two Mario Karts, two 3D Marios, two full 3D Zeldas, a 2D Zelda, Splatoon 1.5 + full Splatoon sequel, two Smash Bros., etc. etc. There's lots to doubt about Switch, but not Nintendo support, that unified library and also being able to quickly rework Wii U games is going to result in an absolute monstrous Nintendo library for the system.

That's why I think they want to do the "remix" route with Mario Kart 8.5/Splatoon 1.5/Super Smash U 1.5 very early in the life cycle, they can get those out of the way quick, then in year 2/3 the full blown sequels can arrive (ie: Mario Kart 9).

I think with games like Mario Kart, Splatoon and Smash Bros Nintendo will choose to treat them as a software platform or application that receives version updates instead of entire installments.

I don't think Splatoon is established enough for Nintendo to rest on their laurels with the franchise. It also has fully flegded, respected campaign that I think needs more then just DLC to replace it. I think we'll get a Splatoon 2 with a bigger budget and huge marketing campaign/merchandising etc. But I agree with MK/Smash.

I don't think they have to rest on their laurels, just they way we see games being presented and released might change. I think there's a reason why Nintendo didn't put some specialized subtitle besides for WiiU  and 3DS on Smash Bros, probably because these games are the first steps in taking on that iterative software release.
