Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Image & Form Says Nintendo Isn’t “Skimping On Power” With Nintendo Switch!

A Tegra X2 for a *mobile* chip is probably the best available chip. So in that sense it is cutting edge.

But this is a small studio also saying this, they make small scale games so to them, sure Switch probably is plenty powerful.

Lol it won't be close to Xbox One power. That console is $299 currently after a major revision to the hardware(xbox one S) and the Switch has an expensive and large 720P screen added in. So either it is going to be much more expensive(which would doom it much like the Wii U with the gamepad) than the Xbox One and more powerful, or cheaper than the Xbox One and less powerful. It won't be cheaper and more powerful than the Xbox One even when subtracting the blu ray drive.

My calculator isn't skimping on power. He can do ever calculation I throw at him in 60fps.

Nintendo skimped on the power. That's been Nintendo's MO for years now. At least as far as being a home console is concerned. Its just a response to the handheld mode. As a handheld its solid. As anything else it is not good.

If it's power you're looking for, I'd suggest you build a PC.

I'm not looking for power. I'm looking for enough power. All Switch had to do was be in range of Xbox One and they could have had all the multiplats the others get. Instead Capcom is making their games for Switch differently because it can't do it.

I hope it'll be as powerfull or near to xb1 becouse 3rd partys tittles for ps4 standar & xb1 will be abble to run on switch without major cost from 3rd partys on adapting to switch.

MEGADRIVE, SNES, SATURN, PS1, N64, DREAMCAST, PS2, GC, XBOX, X360, Wii, PS3, Wii U, PS4, XONE, GAME GEAR, GBP, GBA, NGAGE, GBAP, DS, PSP, 3DS, VITA.

I don't think we will get the denver cpu cores. They weren't in the development kit specs and are probably more expensive to license needing payments to both nvidia and arm and arm licensing is much cheaper. Those arm cores are already massively more powerful than wii u and quite competitive in performance terms. Something like 30-40,000 mips. So I think there is a strong chance we won't get the denver cores.

Also Nintendo needs to make room in the SOC for some frame buffer memory if its using shared memory with no dedicated video memory. They need to adapt the SOC to work with lower cost external components like DDR3 memory and they might adapt the SOC to make compatibility/emulation of 3DS and DS easier for digitally downloaded games as well as improvements to make the hacking of their console harder and more secure.

How much power does the strongest tablet on the market have? Just for a possible comparaison to the Switch.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

That is probably Surface Pro. It has a i7 if memory serves.

How does it compare spec-wise to PS4/XBOne? Because I'm sure the Switch will be one the strongest tablest on the market when it comes out, but it will need to be close to XBOne to at least keep 3rd parties satisfied.
