Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How will Nintendo do a 'GPS' Pokemon for Switch?

1. 3G/4G Switch - Could Switch or a Switch 'premium' model include a sim card option? Maybe a Nintendo online subscription that includes data?

2. 3G/4G addon - I haven't seen a camera confirmed on Switch itself but Nintendo has confirmed addons/hardware so maybe a camera/3g addon might be one solution. I'm not sure how much data Pokemon Go uses but it might be possible to sell an addon that includes a data allowance for a year or include it as part of the game price.

3. Tethering - Connect to mobile data device. Smartphone app acts as a companion to mainline title when no wifi availble. Seems like a clumsy solution but if everybody already has a smartphone, it might be the best option.

4. Pokemon Go will improve the Pokemon Switch experience but the Switch game will not support GPS.

5. Nintendo won't make a 'GPS' Pokemon Switch game.

6. Other.

Thoughts?

Nov 2016 - NES outsells PS1 (JP)

Don't Play Stationary 4 ever. Switch!

Pokemon Go died faster than a nat. It's a very blunt statement, but true. On mobile it works, but I don't think having games that die so quickly is a good thing for consoles. Console gamers demand deeper experiences which is why Sun and Moon preorders are blowing up.

They could do a MODE, which would be similar to go, but uses the engine of the Actual Game, as a complementar mode... And see how this fares, without compromising the main experience.

Good idea, especially considering such a mode wouldn't be deep enough to be the main game.

I believe the Switch will have some kind of smartphone connectivity functionality.
Instead of brining the console always around, you could just use the phone for searching pokemon/items outside or for trading, than you could upload the content into the game console. It would make more sense, imo.

I think it will just use your phone gps..

That's a funny statement, because Pokémon GO is FAR from dead.

I assumed 'Go' would just be a mode for Switch, not the main game, but would allow people to battle each other in the park or at McDonalds. This would need GPS though or only playable at wifi locations.

I definitely think they'll have something like this if they don't have a mobile data solution.

Maybe in game microtransactions could pay for data? Or maybe it's a sneaky way for Nintendo to kill the samrtphone battery so people are left with only a Switch to play on (well played, Nintendo).

I think smarphones apps could in general be used by Nintendo as a sort of upgraded streetpass where people can exchange some gaming related content/data between smarphones and consoles. The content could be used on a more basic level on smarphones, or for a more in-depht experience on Switch.

This way they could have advantages in terms of both more interaction opportunities for Switch users and increased awareness of smartphone users.

via hotspot and phone wifi

I doubt it will have sim cards, if gps at all :/
