not all RAM is created equal. it's also important to know what type of RAM it is... Is it DDR3? DDR4? GDDR5? My phone has 4GB of RAM as well

In any case, 4GB is plenty of RAM for a handheld to render games at 720p, so I'm not seeing the issue here really

I am no expert but even I know RAM is related with loading, world building and doing other tasks for the game. It's not related with resolution. Such threads makes me laugh to see desperate attempts by people.

So you don't know much at all then. The game textures are stored in the RAM memory and the higher detailed textures (1080p vs 720p) require more RAM. So yeah...

Especially when you're talking about 50GB/s of RAM bandwidth would make it pretty much impossible for any current gen game to run at 1080p with the intended 1080p texture pack.

Again, not a big problem if the output is 720 as the screen seems to indicate.

I'm pretty sure the PS4 always had 5gb of ram available, and it's been bumped to 5.5gb.

I'll just leave this here.

you need ram to hold the data like polygons and textures, higher resolution, higher textures,  higher quantity of data to be loaded.  I'm not going to be harsh like you and write something  like "Such threads makes me laugh to see desperate attempts by people". But do some research if this is your hobby.

the info is very conflictive, some reports say 4, other 4.5 others 5gb. I guess that some updates were made.

Who's saying 4.5 and 5?

"Neither system allocates all of that RAM to game developers - some is reserved to run their operating systems.

PS4 reserves up to 3.5GB for its operating system, leaving developers with 4.5GB, according to documentation. They can sometimes access an extra 1GB of "flexible" memory when it's available, but that's not guaranteed."

When was this announced? So far many of their other patents have all been shown legit so far...

because it's a tablet. the hardware is inside that piece of plastic that holds the screen and battery. there's no expanding a tablet unless you buy a newer, better tablet.

Well the SCD patent wasn't about expanding the actual initial devices hardware capabilities it was about assisting the overall experience in achieving something more through add on hardware...

Some people just HAVE to be disappointed. I don't get it.

if only there was a peripheral that once did that...

oh right...

i'm pretty sure I had one too at some point :)

in short, it's not going to happen, if something they will launch an upgraded tablet a few years down the line and that's all the upgrade we'll get

Isnt it 5.5 GB for the PS4 ? (2.5 for OS & background) ?
and 6-6.5 GB for the PS4pro? (it has 1gb DDR3 extra for background stuff)?

The Switch will probably use 1gb for UI/OS/background tasks too...
Leaving you with 3gb or so for games.

Still XB1/PS4 are 5GB or over for the game.

NS will likely be below 3gb for games.

Its not a huge differnce but its there.
