Forums - Gaming Discussion - This Black Friday is going to murder my hard drive. How about you?

Are you hyped for Black Friday or is your system hurting

hyped 18 46.15%

hurting 5 12.82%

I dont wait for deals on black friay 16 41.03%

Total:39

I usually only play games once, so beating the game and deleting it is fine by me. And if I really liked the game, then it is more like I play it once per generation. Don't have time to play games a 2nd time, when I could be playing other great games!

HDD is primitive garbage that belongs in dumps with reel to reel, cassette, 8 track, floppy, and VHS.  This 1950s magnetic recording has hobbled our technology for far too long.  Say no to the IO bottleneck.

60+ GB/s CPUs and RAM and 1 gig internet and 10-100 gig LAN and we still fucking read/write code and data off a fucking primitive magnetic spindles using magnets at kilobytes per second access speeds.  wtf

You seem upset about HDDs but yeah... been a long time since the transfer rates from HDDs were in the KB range... I mean well they are in the 100k KB range but still, you might want to look at upgrading from whatever it is you are using for KB/S speeds.

Random seeks will drop your spindles to kilobytes speeds.

No, because I only buy/play physical games.

But the major part of game data of most games can be loaded sequential. Most of the loading time will be sequential loading of big textures / files, not the seeking times for the starting points between these data transfers.

I'll be okay, my boss murdered my wallet so I won't be able to murder my drive!

Dont they appear in your library like on Steam/GOG/Origin/Uplay so you can download them later?

Yeah, they do. Its just a hassle to continue to download them every ten second, you know? Thanks for putting things into perspective. Simple and to the point. The Xbox Library is insane though, so I had tunnel vision.

Yes my old HDD will be murdered by a new 1tb evo 850 ssd.

LOL Upgrades never hurt anyone.

1.5 tB worth of games? Wow! I guess if I did not buy so many retail games I would be hurting as well. Mine is 1 TB, but most of mine are just 3rd party , eshop games.

I am talking about the Wii U of course, but thought it was relevant.

How many games do you plan on buying?

Whatever appeals to me, really. Most of the games that I have on my HDD were free or discounted but still managed to catch my eye. They are also between the 360 and Xbox One Libraries as well. Im hoping Nintendo cuts the Wii U price so I could focus my taste elsewhere for ten seconds, but we we will see.

The perks of buying games day 1. No backlog.

But you spend so much more in the long run. LOL I only buy what I must have day one. Everything else can get a price drop.

I'm planning to get a PS4 Pro on Black Friday. Hopefully Sony has a good deal on it.

That rarely ever happens for new releases, but I assure you the $299 models of the PS4 will have bundles.
