I'm making this thread to speculate on what third part games could be released around the launch-period (let's say the first 3 months of the console's lifecycle).

Here's a picture of the currently known third party partners that are on board with the Switch.

Dark Souls 3

I find it curious that From Software is listed as a partner as they have never developed games for Nintendo consoles. Maybe they're interested in the prospect of entering the big Japanese mobile market. Previous handheld consoles weren't powerful enough to run their games, but if Breath of the Wild can run on the Switch, so will Dark Souls 3. Also the DLC will launch around the time the Switch launches, so this is the perfect time to launch their game on Nintendo's console.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole

Ubisoft is listed as a partner of the Switch and the game launches in Q1 2017. This seems like a game that is easy to port and it would also be the only version that is portable. Nintendo needs to market their new console to a more adult audience and I think they're aware of this. The Switch reveal trailer didn't show any children: only young adults. This is the perfect game to attract this demographic group to your console. It would be even greater if they released South Park amiibo... That would be a win-win situation for everybody involved and it could boost the game's sales. A port of The Stick of Truth is also possible.

Just Dance 2017

Ubisoft has already confirmed that this game will release on the Switch. Just Dance games have always sold best on Nintendo consoles, so this makes sense. Nothing to get excited about though, let's hope this isn't their only support for the console at launch.

Sonic Mania

I'm surprised this hasn't been confirmed by Sega yet. The Switch is already getting Project Sonic 2017, so why not this? It looks like an easy game to port and 2D platformers have always sold best on Nintendo consoles. The portability works great for titles like this. Sega could even partner with Nintendo to release a special 16-bit Sonic amiibo. We all know it would sell like hotcakes. Sonic Mania looks like a return to glory for Sonic. And the game launches around the same time as the Switch. Sega has no excuse not to release this on the Switch.

Monster Hunter XX HD

The 3DS version of this game is releasing on the 18th of March 2017. It sounds stupid to launch a game like this so close to a new handheld console's launch-day. That's when I thought that they might be planning to release a Switch version... They gave the Wii U an HD port of Monster Hunter Tri, so why not give the Switch an HD port of Monster Hunter XX? The portability of the Switch is already a big advantage over the Wii U. It would be a missed opportunity for both Capcom and Nintendo to not do this in my opinion.

Persona 5

Atlus is listed as a partner and the Playstation exclusive Persona 5 launches in early 2017. Persona 5 is also available on the PS3, so the Switch would be able to handle this game just fine. I think it would be in both Nintendo's and Atlus' benefit to release this game on the Switch as well. This game/franchise could explode in popularity if it's also made available to the big Japanese mobile market. Persona Q sold well on the 3DS for a spin-off game. Nintendo and Atlus also have a recent history together as they partnered up for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE on the Wii U. Will Atlus be able to get a Switch port out in time for the launch though? Not releasing it on the Switch seems like a missed opportunity for both companies involved.

Skyrim Remastered

We saw footage of Skyrim during the reveal trailer of the Switch. Bethesda later stated that they can't confirm any games for the Switch as of now, but it seems incredibly stupid to put this game in your reveal trailer and then not release it... So I hope for both these companies sake that Skyrim will be released on the Switch.

Yooka-Laylee

Yooka-Laylee is supposed to release around this time and the creators of this game are big Nintendo fans. They've even hinted that they're in talks with Nintendo to create amiibo for this game. It will release on the Wii U, so why not on the Switch as well? The only problem might be that they can't make a port in time for the launch-day of the Switch. But I do think a port will eventually happen anyway.

Dragonball Xenoverse 2

Nintendo has a good relationship with Bandai Namco (they partnered together for Super Smash Bros. 4 and Pokkén Tournament). Many Nintendo fans are also big anime fans, so this seems like a logical port to make... I would love to have some Dragonball Z games on Nintendo consoles again.

Dragon Quest Builders

Square Enix is listed as a partner for the Switch. They already confirmed Dragon Quest XI back when the Switch was still known as the NX and later retracted that statement. I guess they weren't alllowed to reveal that information yet, but it definitely suggests Square Enix and Nintendo have some sort of partnership going on for the next generation. Minecraft is popular in Japan, Dragon Quest is popular in Japan and portable games are popular in Japan. What do you get when you mix all those things together? Dragon Quest Builders on the Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest XI (PS4 version)

Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii has actually confirmed that Dragon Quest will release on the Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch is much closer in power to the PS4 than it is to the 3DS, so it's obvious that it will get the PS4 version. For now, Dragon Quest XI is slated for a 2017 release, so it probably won't be ready in time for the launch-period of the Switch, but it should at least release on the system in 2017.

My guess would be: No, No, Yes, Yes, No (although with spin offs maybe), No clue, Maybe, No, No.

Dark souls 3 on a Nintendo would be very strange. The rest are going to be out for so long already it feels weird for them to come to a system that long after.

DQ builder, and DB X coming to the system 5 months later just seems weird.

What? A lot of the games I listed release around the same time as the Switch.

And the Wii U got late ports of games like Batman: Arkham City, so I don't see what's weird about it... This happens frequently. The PS4 got games like God of War 3 Remastered, The Last of Us Remastered, Dark Souls 2 and GTA V didn't it? Why is it weird for the Switch, but not the PS4?

You honestly believe the Switch won't get mainline Monster Hunter games? You're obviously not being very rational here if you only expect it to get spin-offs.

None of those seem like big reaches. A big reach would be something like RDR2 or some other big budget western 3rd party game. Anything from a Japanese 3rd party developer seems within reach since the Switch will probably sell like hotcakes in Japan and any Japanese developer would be crazy to not at least test the waters.

I wouldn't be surprised if From Software did something like Lost Kingdoms III instead of porting over Dark Souls III though.

Nintendo can't be interested in getting months old ports. This is what the Wii U had, with a few exceptions. The bulk of who wants it by then, will have these games.

I doubt Dark Souls 3, they need the trilogy. Rememebr what happened with Mass Effect 3 Wii U edition? Nice package, but poor sales.

well they did release at the same time the trple pack on th eother systems for the same price. that is what fucked Mass Effect 3

The ones I feel are a definite no are Dark Souls 3, South Park and Persona 5. Dragon Quest Builders is pushing it too.

The rest seems like there will be a chance, and Just Dance was already confirmed.

It would be great to get third parties, but no port of old games(by old I mean 6 months or more). The reason for this is that simply it wont sell well, and wont move the console.I can see it maybe working if it is an definitive edition, with all DLC and stuff, but even then it would be Wii U all over again, getting old ports, games people most likely already have, and more expensive than other systems. Now, games like Persona 5 and RE 7 would be a non issue, since they would be still fresh.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Pretty much this, and lets not forget that the X360 version of Mass Effect 3 was better (with kinect)

But yeah looking over the OP I think most of the games you suggest could find their way onto the switch without much hassle.

People often attack the Wii-U for having poor third party support, but forget that in the beginning it had fantastic support, Batman Arkam game, Assassins Creed, Tekken Tag Tournie 2 WiiU edition, Call of Duty black ops 2/3, Fifa, Deus Ex, Dark Siders 2, skylanders, Guitar Hero live, Injustice Gods Among us, Madden series, Monster hunter... I mean the list of actual 3rd party games the Wii-U got would make for an impressive lineup on any system... the issue was Nintendo were just not able to hold up their end of creating the first party titles as they had done for other systems before, HD gaming dev took them too long and without the Nintendo magic first party software people were not able to (or didn't have a reason to) over look the systems lack of power when compared to systems like the PS3 and X360 even.

But yeah... I'll always contest that the Wii-U did not have third party support, because it very much did have it... then squandered it away while Nintendo fumbled in the first party lineup.

I don't understand the people complaining about "months old" ports or claiming that was the Wii U's problem... The Wii U's had a wide array of problems, but the biggest one was the lack of interesting first party titles during its launch. We had Nintendo Land which did not prove nearly as popular as Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros. Wii U which basically looked like a Wii game in HD. Hopefully the Switch will address that problem. Having The Legend of Zelda: The Breath of the Wild ready for launch is the first step, but they do need more.

The third party games I suggest would just be a bonus on top of the first party offerings. I can see most of these games selling relatively well like Monster Hunter XX HD, Dragon Quest Builders, Just Dance 2017, Persona 5 (marketing it as a mobile game could push for more sales in Japan), Sonic Mania, Yooka-Laylee and Dragonball Xenoverse 2. Dark Souls 3 likely wouldn't sell all that well, but Nintendo needs a wide variety of games to be able to market their console to a larger demographic. I'm unsure of how South Park: The Fractured But Whole would sell... Could go any way really. South Park is a very popular brand and I don't see why Nintendo fans would like South Park less than Sony or Microsoft fans.
