Forums - Gaming Discussion - Your Most Underrated Gem This Generation

Tagged games:

I find ZombiU as my favorite underrated gem this generation. No matter what anyone says. It's a game that launched this current generation. It's Badass. It's massively underrated.

I would play it all the time if there weren't other games i have to beat.

DriveClub
Gravity Rush
Tearaway
Knack
Alienation

I have one for each system.
PS4 - Aragami. It is the best stealth game I have ever played. It's great and challenging and the music is awesome too

3DS - Stella Glow. One of the few RPG's that has genuinely surprised me. Everything about it was amazing.

Wii U - Definitely Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE. I think it's under rated commercially and given a bad view because people are salty and don't understand things change and when they originally revealed it, they didn't know what direction it was gonna go in and stuff. The combat is amazing and it's just a great game.

I still need to get this. Not sure when I'm going to though.

Alien Isolation. This game deserves the sales and hype that trashy Evil Within game got.

Not sure if it's underated (81 in Metacritic), but it's certainly seen as a minor game: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

It's not a big AAA, but playing it is a really a treat: my favourite game on Wii U so far.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth is a better game than the 75 metacritic score might suggest.

That makes it a "Underrated Gem".

Most Digimon games are underrated gems.

My vote goes to Disgaea 5. It brings so much to the series and yet it seems only fans played it and it was ignored by the rest of the world.

Mafia III.

I seriously fell in love with this game, I'm loving every minute and just can't stop playing it! I don't get all the hate and I also didn't have any major gamebreaking bugs.

Official member of VGC's Nintendo family, approved by the one and only RolStoppable. I feel honored.

I've just realized that the majority of underrated gems that cross my mind are WiiU games xD. I think it's also an unnappreciated console, and I wish it could have sold more in order to expand its cataloge but, well... OT, these are some of them:

- TMS#FE best JRPG this gen by miles. But, hey, it's Atlus, they always deliver. Can't wait to see if Persona 5 will take that throne. It'd be a hard task, that's for sure.
- The Wonderful 101. I think it's a better hack n' slash than Bayonetta 1 (2 is still the king). I've read some criticisms about the controls, but it wasn't an issue for me. It didn't take much time to adjust.
- Paper Mario : Color Splash. Yeah, it doesnt't have bad reviews, but it was killed before release by Nintendo fans (myself included). It's not among the best of the franchise, but it's still an enjoyable and charming adventure, with a stellar writing and presentation.
- Star Fox : Zero. I enjoyed it a lot. Once I've mastered the controls, I came to appreciate what the developers had in mind. I was capable of pulling tricks that I simply couldn't do with a standard control scheme. So, yeah, I had a blast playing it.
- DK:Tropical Freeze. I know, underrated gem is a bit extreme maybe. But I honestly expected that the game was GOTY candidate, because it's one of the finest platformers ever crafted. And it kind of... went unnoticed. At least more than I wish. Definitely more than it deserves.

EDIT. Totally forget about Fatal Frame V. Best survival horror this gen. Fantastic atmosphere, full of geniunely creepy moments and, also, immersive controls. A bit outdated, and it could do with less backtracking, but it was everything that I was expecting.

I must say that despite the WiiU fail, I'll always remember these gems, because all of then were worth my time and money, and all of them were among my best gaming experiences this gen.

I got all of these and I also love them so much! They are big reason why my Wii U library is so great.

WiiU library is short, but it's full of high quality games. It could be better if the WiiU sold better, but Nintendo made some mistakes to promote it, and I get that now is not worth all the support it could get. Still, I had a blast with the console.
