Well I hope they are done with motion controls. Just make regular games. Mario Maker would work ok with a regular controller anyway.

Motion controls maybe. But to say they should kill of IR controls is silly. I refuse to play a FPS title with dual analog. And if you have seen the Switch controller, even if you like dual analog, that controller is not going to cut it. I really hope IR controls find their way into the console but if not, I will deal and just not get FPS (or almost and first person title) games that do come to the console.

Well PSVR might be the thing for you then.

I am unsure how this is relevent but I already use mouse+keyboard. I like that Wii and Wii U offered me something almost as cohesive as that combination. I do not know much about Playstation VR except that I do not want it (price is the primary reason). If the console does not have the functionality, I will be disappointed but I will most likely just continue to buy the FPS (and other first person) titles on PC.

Splatoon didn't need IR for aiming and that was better than any shooter with the Wiimote/Move if you ask me, so whateves.

2 things:

1) Splatoon is in third person.

2) I do not own Splatoon specifically because the controls turn me off.

Its a smooth peice of plastic (faceing outwards).... on either side behinde it, there are some small sensors that pick up IR signals.

Somewhere on the front side of this dock, are 2 sensors that pick up IR signals.

Just like in the sensor bar the Wii had, its just beneath the surface of it.

For all we could know it could be behinde the Logo :p

Either that, or when you buy the Nintendo Switch, it comes with a old Wii Sensor bar.

Nintendo are likely done with exclusive controller options, so although I think we'll definitely see motion graphics it will not be mandatory for any experiences apart from apps based on touch screen use.

So the screen size is the same as the Wii U gamepad?

Touch screen is an obvious addition, and I'm fine with the size

That said, it will be difficult to play multiplayer games or even using it as a screen with the pro controller.. I'd probably just use it like a PSP/Vita

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

I'm ok with that =) as long as the games also look great on the TV

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Emily Rogers said that in september. and with much more detaisl.
she got everything right.
Eurogamer must have the same sources, but emily is much faster.

720 screen is excellent. I was thinking it would be less TBH.

How else would Super Mario Maker work on the Switch? I think a multi-touch display is a guarantee at this point.
But how would you play SMM when docked? It may only work in portable mode.

Really dont like the idea of some games only working in handheld mode.

Well for this same reason I expect Nintendo will not be making games that hinge on touchscreen controls.
The controls are still there, because they are still useful for general UI menus and Android/web browser/etc functionality.
Multitouch screens of this size are a commodity product due to smartphones, so excluding touchscreen wouldn't save them much $.
Of course, Android games that depend on touch would not work well when docked, but what can you do?

Well, extra features are always great.  And say what you will, but 720 p for the portable mode is great.
And when in home console mode it will be in 1080 or 900p, so Im good.

That ain't happening.   Not unless there is a SCD dock that costs more money with a far more powerful chip.

I'd expect a bit of a performance jump in docked mode, but 1080p is 2.25x more pixels than 720p,
not a chance in hell the NS is magically overclocking itself 2.25x in performance just because it's running off a dock instead of a battery.

I'm not really convinced by this.  (what is SCD dock anyways?)
As you bring up idea of needing "extra chip", that isn't much different from activating unused GPU cores when docked...
Sony just specs GPU for 1080p capability at full speed, when in mobile mode in 720p you don't need as many cores activated
So in mobile mode they can turn off a good amount of GPU cores to save power, along with potential downclock as well.
Obviously, as with Xbone/PS4, some games may end up at 900p etc in docked mode, even if chip is specced for 1080p target.

And of course, they could cheap out and make docked mode have zero graphical bonus, but I don't see why that's the only option.
