Or technology has advanced / been better designed, and the width of the dock itself is enough.

Where do you see that on the dock though...? Unless its not the final design of course.

Its a smooth peice of plastic (faceing outwards).... on either side behinde it, there are some small sensors that pick up IR signals.

Somewhere on the front side of this dock, are 2 sensors that pick up IR signals.

Just like in the sensor bar the Wii had, its just beneath the surface of it.

For all we could know it could be behinde the Logo :p

Either that, or when you buy the Nintendo Switch, it comes with a old Wii Sensor bar.

edit: Disreguard above.  It would have to be in the tablet itself, since on the plane ride in the trailer, its shown used with just the tablet.

There is a rumor that the main unit, when docked, sends out two infrared lights(not sure if its infrared) on each side of the unit, in the part that sticks out of the dock.Supposidely at least

Oh..... yeah I guess it could be on the tablet itself.... that makes more sense.

That way you could use Motion Controlls also when its not docked.

Well I hope they are done with motion controls. Just make regular games. Mario Maker would work ok with a regular controller anyway.

Its shown in the trailer.

They show the joy-con used as a Wiimote for motion controlls.

Thinking about it they show it also when its just in tablet (not docked) so its probably the tablet that has the sensors.

No they dont. They just show him playing on them separately.

Damn.. I just assumed because of how he was holding it reminded me of the Wiimote.

I remember seeing the axe swing in the trailer, and assumeing that was motion controlls.

Where does the rumor of its Motion controller funktion come from then?

I really think they are done with motion controls. They made it clear that the Switch is not a continuation of the Wii brand.

Doesn't this make the console more expensive?

Wonder if we'll still get games like Rainbow Curse even though they can't be played on the TV. There should never be a situation where you can use the TV but not the Switch's handheld mode so games like that should be fine.

Motion controls maybe. But to say they should kill of IR controls is silly. I refuse to play a FPS title with dual analog. And if you have seen the Switch controller, even if you like dual analog, that controller is not going to cut it. I really hope IR controls find their way into the console but if not, I will deal and just not get FPS (or almost and first person title) games that do come to the console.
