Using the IR sensor in the right Joy Con will mimick a Wiimote with cursor. This should have been supported by Mario Maker (Wii U) in the first place.

How will it do that without a sensor bar?

The Docking station for the Switch tablet.... is the sensor bar :p

I would have been shocked if it didn't have a touch-screen.

Maybe it comes with two candles to put on each side of the dock

Worked for the Wii.

How else would Super Mario Maker work on the Switch? I think a multi-touch display is a guarantee at this point. But how would you play SMM when docked? It may only work in portable mode.

The Joy-con's work like the Wii's Nunchucks.

Theres a IR sensor in the dock.

Well, if that is how they are going to do it Nintendo needs to make a joy-con with a good D pad. I'm sure they will at some point.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

Really dont like the idea of some games only working in handheld mode.

The right controller has an IR pointer. Essentially its a wiimote. Motion controls confirmed, probably wii BC aswell.

Worked for the Wii.

Or technology has advanced / been better designed, and the width of the dock itself is enough.

Where do you see that on the dock though...? Unless its not the final design of course.

There is a rumor that the main unit, when docked, sends out two infrared lights(not sure if its infrared) on each side of the unit, in the part that sticks out of the dock.Supposidely at least

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well playing Mario Maker with a pointer sounds like a pain in the ass.
