Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rumor: Nintendo Switch Will Support Micro SDXC Cards Up To 128GB In Capacity

nowhere near enough. Even if you factor in that most of those games will be rendered at 540p and will have garbage textures, it will still eat through 128GB in no time.

Am I being stupid by pointing out that cartridges means games won't need to be installed?

DLC could be added to the cartridge, no?

Cartridges (SD cards in disguise) could be 512GB

Am I missing something? I thought one of the bonuses of carts is instant play without installing?

Can the current 128GB limit be updated later for 256 and 512?

A single cart could hold upto 10x PS4 games @ 50GB/game.

At least 3rd parties won't have to worry about multi-disc games and horrendous install times.

Games on the WiiU didnt need to be installed either.

I'm not sure, but I remember someone explaining in another thread that the cartridges would most likely be read-only...

That would make sense for piracy protection but I'm pretty certain they can be read/write if Nintendo chooses.

Surely, but that would also cost more, no?

(and could be weak against piracy, yes)

1. I'm aware that you won't need to install physical Switch games, which is great. The size limit is bad for those who were hoping to go digital only this gen though.

2. Not sure if that's possible or not.

3. I think they're rumored to be 36 GB cartridges, but it's been awhile since I saw that particular specs leak.

4. Not sure if you can boost a size limit like this with a firmware update or not.

Cart size can be changed if a game requires it. If 36 is standard now, then 128 isnt out of the question.

PS4 still uses blurah, no? That's only 50 a disk.

The carts could also accept micro SD cards, hmmmm.

There goes digital only for me :(....

....Oh, look! It's a cartridge with BOTW on it. Nevermind :).

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

Do the people thinking digital-only is out of the question remember the R4 piracy DS carts?

The ones where you could fit every single DS game, EU+NA+JP version all on a single cartridge?

I think Nintendo has this covered guys.

Disks are OLD technology.
