Forums - Gaming Discussion - New Wii game from Ubisoft - My Word Coach

This game could very easily be a runaway success.  I have no idea why the people above me are deriding it.  First, there's the educational angle which would go a long way to convincing parents to buy the game for their children.  Second, word based games are incrediably popular.  Look at the success of such games online (available for free).  So, while the price may need to be less than $50 (though that's not clear to me given the market they are entering) I think Ubisoft is sitting on a goldmine.

Well, the first of "teh kiddiez gamez lol lamers u shud lern to spel like 1337 speek"

So much for Nintendo catering exclusively for non-adults. This looks like something I'd get my wife (non-native English speaker) and I bet where I live the city will be inundated with people "playing" this (being that English is mostly a second language here).

Only problem I see is the instructions are pretty "high level" English - perhaps there are different "difficulty" levels...

Yeah hopefully they will have varying difficulty/age levels or something? So maybe a 5 year old can do some real easy words or something? I don't know... I guess my DS Brain Age games is too advanced for my 6-year old nephew (he can't multiply or divide).

If they are smart (and I'm pretty sure ubisoft as a company "ain't dumb") they will have it. This type of game is a fantastic opportunity to engage the everyman (or woman).

Children can play it and increase their word power.

Adults can play it and hone their word power.

Adults who speak English as a second language can use this to build their word power.

I really think ubisoft have a hit on their hands.

Come to think of it, if it does have difficulty levels I'd get it for my 3-year-old son as well.

As they say, knowledge is power!

Not exactly what I had in mind when I heard Ubisoft has some Wii exclusives they are working on. To be honest I was expecting franchise titles (platformers, etc) but this game is somewhat interesting. I think it would have been a better fit on a handheld (the DS with it's touchpad so that a virtual keyboard could be used for the spelling) but maybe parents and interested adults will enjoy it, every title helps.

*edit: Opps nevermind I should have read the entire thing before commenting, it is coming for the DS as well.

I think franchises don't have to be platformers.  Case in point: the Brain Age series.

I welcome this shift in "gaming" -  not only can you have fun (provided you break down conventional thinking that dictates a game must be an action, rpg or sim title to be "fun"), you can also learn while you're at it; only good things can come out of that!

a great time waster that's a good thing.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Building on your vocabulary is a waste of time?  Maybe a productive way to kill time, perhaps, but a waste?

I would probarbly need that game my english need a little bit of improvment... other than that with the right marketing this should sell well.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

And this game would be on PS3 why? Or has what to do with the PS3 anyway for that matter? Stupid comments like that get old after a while. Will it sell? Doubt it. Is it a good indicator of the way Wii/DS developers are likely to be thinking? Most likely.
