Incredible. MK8 must have one of the best attach rates of all time.

Having its own Mario Kart will be important for the success of the Switch. I wonder when will we get Mario Kart 9.

Even though people will argue about it, but Mario Kart is the king of racers (all different kinds). Just like Pokémon is the king of RPGs. Not every game needs to be realistic, violent, dark or gritty. Too many publishers ignore cartoony games. Just look at the success Overwatch and Splatoon got.

According to Wikipedia, Karts are released about every 3 years.  MK8 was released in May of 2014.  So....

Meh. Probably the most boring WiiU game (not counting those hellspawned digital games) alongside Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, in my eyes. Congratulations, I guess.

Nintendo loves to port old stuff to new systems.  So, I'm sure they'll do a bunch of it.  Also, considering the poor sales of Wii U, there will likely be many Switch owners that didn't play the original versions.  That's not going to make the 15MM Wii U owners rush out to buy the Switch though, and Nintendo needs every early system sale they can get.  If this thing doesn't do well in the first 12-18 months, its all over for Nintendo in the hardware business.

I still remember people predicting it would sell less than Super Circuit.

It's well deserved but I still believe there's a room for improvement: more option, more balanced items and bots, a decent battle mode. The game is far from perfect.

So in addition to outselling every Gamecube game, MK8 has, on an install base of less than 14 million, also outsold:

- All but 2 N64 games (Install base 33 million)
- All but 4 SNES games (Install base 49 million)
- All but 3 NES games (Install base 60 million)
- All but 3 PS1 games (Install base 102 million)
- All but 6 PS2 games (Install base 155 million)

That's wild.

And it's totally deserved. I'd argue it's the best of its kind, and among the best games of this gen.
