Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo president essentially confirms Switch is a handheld

THere have been a few threads about Nintendo's announcement about selling 2 million Switchs in March.

The real bit of info is that Nintendo itself believes that it is comparable to the 3ds, not the WiiU.

So in reference to sales -

Nintendo CEO said he is confident that "consumers would understand that [the Switch] would be different from 3DS." That said, Nintendo will continue to produce and support the 3DS for the time being rather than immediately letting the Switch serve as a replacement, Kimishima said.

I think the debate about console or handheld has been decided...

It is near the end of the end....

Its what I've been saying. At least Nintendo quit beating around the bushes. Now maybe people can stop with trying to claim that a tablet is a home console.

Isn't this just semantics? You can hook it up to a TV and friends can hang out and play together in the living room. Or you can take it on the train or plane and play solo on a portable device.

It functions as both. Why do we need to label it?

Isn't that clear? It is a handheld that can hook up to the TV and a home console that you can play on the go. They will market it however they please because of that.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Makes sense to me...

How many threads are we going to have where the OP claims that based on what he/she found, it's 100% that the Switch is a home console/handheld? Just wait for some more info...

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

It's a portable home console. A handheld would be something different imo.

WHO CARES? Why can't it be both exactly? It performs the functions of both. Home consoles are consoles you hook up to your tv to play. Portables are consoles you can play anywhere. This does both.

That's not how I read that at all. He's saying that he's confident people won't mistake Switch for a 3DS successor, because it isn't. It's a portable home console. Nintendo's official statement on the matter is that it's a home gaming system. One that is portable.

/facepalm
