I bought the stand for the PlayStation 2 and Playstation 2 slim. It was nice but yes it was overpriced and just another way for Sony to make money.

The Wii U is the only console in recent memory to include a stand. Personally, I think having them lying down makes the most sense...but that's just me.

The PS3 fat had rubber feet on one side instead. The slim PS3 too could go vertical with no stand necessary (but no rubber feet), and importantly has no vents blocked (unlike the PS4). Some say PS3 slim air flow and heat dissipation were slightly improved in vertical, though on occasion drive vibration or noise might increase. Overall it seems the PS3 had some design decisions with the vertical option in mind, I'm not sure if this level of forethought is there for the PS4.

Yeah, that does seem to be the case if there's already stands for sale for them...

The Wii also came with a stand, and I thought a PS4 did as well. Yeah, having the option to have it standing or lying down is good, but if they're gonna sell a stand for it, why not just have it included from the start, especially when this looks like it could fit in the box just fine.
