Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: We still believe in console generations

Yeah, no surprises here. Distinct generations just make more sense for the console space.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Helped the PS4 didn't it?

Well, you won that debate.

I feel if consoles are gonna stick to current architecture, just keep upgrading. It sounds like new gen is an excuse not support the old hardware.

Maybe. It could be an actual statement that they won't let, or don't want iterative consoles to spiral out of control. To appease a certian fanbase. Sony has a vested interest in streaming services though....Who knows.

see Rafies answer, Sony has more balance with the Vanilla PS4 and Pro. MS on the other hand has the strongest and the weakest console at the same, it wont be fun to devolop games for both

The disparity between X1 and PS4 isn't that big, its mostly impacted resolution.

This isn't Xbox vs PS2.

No what we mean is that how do figure that vanilla PS4 would hold back the Pro when they are actually closer in power. Versus Xbox One to Scorpio which is a significant leap in power.

Ah, well you also have to consider the work being done on other platforms, not just Xbox or Playstation.

Anything on PS4 can be scaled back for X1 (resolution, graphics settings, etc). Anything on Scorpio can be scaled back for PS4 Pro.

Also, as it stands now the Scorpio and PS4 Pro are primarily just resolution upgrades.

Oh okay I understand. Also the framerate upgrades with those consoles. I really hope that at the very least we will get ALL games in 1080p 60fps. I would rather have that if they can't truly achieve (especially in Pro's case) 4k.

I'm sure some games will aim for aim for the best presentation at 1080p with a frame rate north of 30 fps. Rise of the Tomb Raider will be doing that.

But maybe its just easier for developers to increase the resolution while touching little else.

Well, so a new generation is a new architecture. A new playstation after pro using x86 would so be in his generation...
So, will other architecture replace the mainstream x86 for gaming?
The only I can thing is ARM. Seem that ARM is growing in usage, with all mobile things, some multiplataform developers are also starting porting their games for mobile devices. Seem that ARM is the future.
When ARM start to achieving more than PS4 Pro performance levels, maybe we see PS5. And it can take a long time to happen.
So, 10 or more years of 8th generation?

but that doesnt work in the PC space, the lower graphicscards get shafted at some point because they get too weak. The PS4 is still 50% more powerfull than the Xbox One and now it even supports HDR across the board, as well as VR.

Great. Expect to rebuy all your content again for the PS5. Console generations is nothing more than a cash grab and hype machine. Its one reason why i switched to PC gaming. I like my gaming library.

This. PC Master Race.
