2017 is going to be a massive year for console gaming. It really doesn't matter who you support because everyone will have something to offer or to sell you.
Nintendo - It's all about the Nintendo Switch and finally showcase what the heck they have been brewing behind close door.
Sony - Having shown all their cards, Sony can really refine and show what they have with PS4, PS4 Pro and PSVR and put the focus where it should always be on games.
Microsoft - Has started to really hit some stride this gen with the new Xbox one S and next year it's going to be about the Scorpio. But, hardware aside what do they have coming in software to really get gamers on board. Is State of Decay 2 going to grow into a AAA game?
My expectation for 2017:
Nintendo - The unknown from Nintendo is killing me, how good is the launch lineup going to be? Is Zelda alone enough for me to be a day 1 supporter? Nintendo Switch is not going to match Sony and Microsoft in terms of graphic (especially PS4 pro & Scorpio) but then again some of my favorite games were on the Wii and clearly graphic doesn’t make a good game. That reveal trailer was clearly aimed at an older audience, has Nintendo finally decide to cater to every one rather than following the family friendly approach of past? How can you not be excited to what Nintendo has to offer in 2017?
Sony - Games Games Games .... Horizon zero dawn, God of War, Spider man (insomniac), Days Gone, Detroit, persona 5, etc. If you’re like me and still don't own a PS4, Sony is seriously making harder and harder to resist. While, I'm not into the PSVR hype, it's the Sony exclusive like Uncharted 4, Bloodborne and Horizon Zero Dawn that really have me considering getting PS4 slim or PS4 Pro in 2017.
Microsoft - Scorpio, It's certainly an interesting piece of hardware mainly due to Sony forcing Microsoft hands. But, again is it too early for Microsoft to switch everything to 4k gaming. I mean come on current gen console can barely get 1080P 60 FPS right. In order to get the benefits from Scorpio, It means that I have to purchase a 4K TV. I just got a new Samsung 1080P less than two years ago. Will Microsoft manage to get a price similar to the PS4 Pro? If not I really don't think Scorpio is for me. Microsoft focus at E3 and gameshow has been on showing what you will be playing in the near future, that's left a lot of unanswered questions for 2017. In terms of games I'm excited for Halo Wars 2 and State of Decay 2 but is there a big unannounced Holiday title coming from Microsoft seem too early for Halo 6? Can the Microsoft exclusive like Crackdown 3, Scale bound, and Sea of thieves live up to the hype? I hope that Microsoft really embrace indie and 2017 they can fill in major release gap with indie game like, below, Cuphead, Tacoma, etc. If Microsoft invests in Indie developer they can bring interesting and exciting new games to their platform and Indie developer’s benefits from the financial boost to bring a better product to market.
