Forums - Gaming Discussion - Titanfall 2 isn't native 4K on PS4 Pro and it doesn't sound like many games will be

It surprises me that Skyrim Remastered will be in 4k seeing how expansive the improvements are.

Yeah, that sounds like the most visually advanced game pushing 4K on PS4P.

But its just polish on an old game, so maybe that's why its feasible.

No wonder. I heard not even the Blurays are native 4k.

Actually, most really aren't. Right now some studios are pushing for 4K or 5K filming, but the majority of 4K Blu-Rays were filmed in 2K. Even a good bunch of the ones filmed in 4K are downscaled to 2K for post production.

I dont think I will ever understand this native 4k craze of late. And I doubt anyone thought PS4pro would be running games at native 4k since it's specs were leaked in March. but here we are pretend g like this is some sort of news.

I am personally more interested to see how much better than 1080p its upressed games will be or how close to native 4k it's pseudo 4k will be.

What's even more interesting, is that we see how a more expensive scorpio sells on the merits of its "native 4kness" compared to something that does pseudo 4k and would most likely cost $100 less than the scorpio or more.

Call me crazy, but after its all said and done, I think what we all take from this is that resolution isn't as important as most would lead us to believe.

This. In all honesty MS will throw a lot of power behind something that the average consumer wont even notice. The internet hype for the Scorpio is pretty good, in the real world the PS4 is still slaughtering the competition on a global scale and by next year the non-native-4k PS4P will have a huge lead (+the 50 million or so "normal" PS4s).

I want to see some amazing gains at 1080p before I am even considering the pro. Thus far my PS4 is perfect as it is, and I will much rather have a non 4k PS4/Switch combo than anything else.

In this instance, it likely wouldn't run at a native 4k on the Scorpio either. The Scorpio should be able to hit a native 4k functionally always with 1080p X1 settings, and fairly consistently with 1080p PS4 settings, but anything running at sub-900p on the X1, or sub-1080p on the PS4 (which TF2 does; last i checked it's 720p on the X1, and 900p on the PS4) is going to present a significant challenge. Looking at the X1 to Scorpio; we're talking about 4.6x more tflops, but 9x the resolution. The Scorpio's tflops are going to have to be worth considerably more than the X1's to pull it off.

Again, a tf number is telling you next to nothing in terms of real world applications as no application will ever compute that much to reach these numbers.

I went through this in the beginning of this gen and still do. Computers are complex systems with many components relying on each other and they have to work together to get something on a screen.

Add to that that different games have different demand on the computing systems so there isn't even a remote rule of thumb.

Additionally expect a new generation of the gpu meaning a different uarch underneath, being more efficient at computing.

I'm aware of the variability with tflops, hence i ended off with "The Scorpio's tflops are going to have to be worth considerably more than the X1's to pull it off.". I'm also aware it can vary by game, hence the relative qualifiers i used were vague (in general, given SweetTalia seemed surprised by just the OT, i felt it best to keep my explanation simple).

It's not outside the realm of possibility that the Scorpio will could hit the mark (nor do i say otherwise), but based on what we know about the Scorpio, and what we can reasonably assume, i personally think it's more likely it won't more often than it does in these situations.

Remember, we aren't working in a vacuum here. While predicting specifics is hard, we can at least make good guesses at the upper end of what reality can allow the Scorpio to achieve. We know whose making its GPU, and how their current GPUs perform. We knows there's a limit to how large an efficiency jump AMD could make between now and the end of the Scorpio's design windows, brand new architecture or not. We can also make reasonable assumptions as to the limit of how much MS want the overall machine to cost, and we can confidently say they want the system to easily scale with the X1. You get the idea.

So again, i could be entirely wrong, but my personal expectation is the Scorpio will at least struggle to hit 4k in instances like this.

It just started and i'm already tired of the 4k meme.
How about we do 1080p 60 fps first?

PSVR does 1080p60 :)

And I anticipate that Titanfall 2 will still be a success on the PS4.

There are many AAA games that run on sub 1080p at "30" fps (with drops) on Xbox One and Microsoft wants you to believe the scorpio will run games at 4k.

We ain't even getting 4k next gen.

if ps4 pro can run some games at 4k, you seriously believe scorpio won't be able to?  chuckles*

ps4 pro have some games that do run at 4k native [less demanding games of course].. so i see no reason why scorpio would not surpass the result of what ps4 pro can do, since it is coming out next year fall.

Praise the One.

It's not unreasonable to assume the Scorpio will be able to hit a native 4k on many 900p X1 titles, let alone its 1080p ones. The X1 was a fairly under-powered system, so the relative jump between it and the Scorpio should be pretty dramatic.
