Forums - Politics Discussion - Religious people understand the world less, study suggests

And they are less prone to depression thanks to their optimistic (and inaccurate) view of the world.

I want there to be a god and an afterlife, life would be much easier believing that.

Religious people understand the world less, snow is white, water is wet, Donald Trump is orange, study suggests.

I don't do religon at all, sorry if it came across that I do.

Then don't "preach" something you don't understand.

Peace, man.

You don't have to believe in something to understand it and its wrongdoings. Would be like suggesting that only people who commited murder could discuss the act and ramifications of it.

Peace to you too (?) not sure if a religious thing you offer, but I enjoy peace and smileys!

If I had bone cancer eating away at me but I thought there was someone else who had the power to stop it and who was controlling it's movement slowly towards my brain without feeling the need to stop it.... I'd be pretty depressed, I mean it's bad enough when it does happen, but to think that your creator is testing you with such a thing... would that not be such a crazy feeling, like a lab rat in a cage being poked to see how you will react before you die.

Interesting conclusion. Finland is supposed to have one of the world's best education systems, yet people there have a lack of understanding about the real world. Did the religious ones switch off in science lessons or is Finnish education not able to teach people to think. I know many religious people who would not make such fundamental errors.

Just take enough mushrooms.  I'm sure you'll find some sort of god eventually.

Honestly. When are we going to stop having threads where it's okay to tell religious people how stupid they are?

I bet the Wii U would sell more than 15M LTD by the end of 2015. He bet it would sell less. I lost.

Switch the religious talk with Nintendo/PS/Xbox/PC you can guarantee most here would be warned or banned

Not too surprising. But the way people will use this as fact is the wrong way.
Religious people don't care about everything in the world as long as it doesn't harm anybody. They take it as it is and move on without questioning everything. Another study might suggest that religious people are more happy but no need to bash all non-religious people then.
Too extreme sides. I'm not religious at all, I'm even undenominational and was raised without anything related to it (more of the commercial way about Christmas and stuff). But I still understand what religions are about and respect how they shaped today's world, rights and no-nos. Most loud people don't, they think religion is all about the bible and that it is law to religious people. People who think religion is bad are as bad as those who think their religion is the only key. Just like some would hate video games for being evil and influential. But that's only the loud minority you know of every kind. Gamers who are loud on the internet are rarely in any way representative for the whole community and understand the world less ;)

So just because I am religious and I believe in God, it automatically means that I don't fully understand how the world works, even if all my life I've studied and read and saw how it works?

If that study really wants to say what I think it's going to say, it should be more direct and not beat around the bush.
