Forums - Sony Discussion - CNET: How the PS4 Pro made me a believer

I live 2 blocks from an EB, so I might get it there since they are taking pre-orders. The only thing I have to do is decide between them, and Best Buy. I'll probably go with Best Buy if they are taking pre-orders. I like their rewards program, unlike EB Edge, which is useless. :) I'm also a weirdo who doesn't like stuff delivered. I like to go get it myself. It's all good for day 1 though.

Don't worry I have the same issue. If I pay for something I want it asap. Day one anything is always quicker via midnight launch or pick up since you don't need to worry about delivery delays, missing delivery or having to wait by the door.

Nice to find another odd duck. Lots of people raise their eyebrow at me when I say I don't use Amazon.

i believe in the pro

The PS5 Exists.

If the PS4Pro can pull of these graphics im hyped to see what the Scorpio can do with actual 4K.

Yeah yeah that's all nice and all, but will it play UHD blurays? That's the new 'will it blend' :D

Checkerboard style is fine.

I mean look at this:

Can you see alot of jaggies? (I cant)

Will Native 4k be that much better? (no, imo)

It will be sharper. Not night and day difference, but noticeably sharper when looking at an actual 4K display with video actively rendering. At that point, it's going to depend upon how close the viewer is to the screen and the size of the screen.

But at normal living room viewing distances, it won't make a difference. Those who play with 4k displays at a desk and play seated at the desk will probably be able to tell, as will the odd duck console player who stands within arm's reach of their display when they play.

It feels like this discussion has been covered ad nauseum already when 1080p displays and the 7th gen were new.

I know I'm excited for it

"And even on a standard HDTV, one with a 1920x1080p resolution, the checkerboard technique (combined with supersampling, where a game is rendered at a higher resolution and then shrunk down to a lower one) greatly improved the quality. Lara Croft's hair, and the tree branches around her, didn't shimmer nearly as much. Old PS4 games looked like they'd been remastered once checkerboard rendering and supersampling were turned on."

This is the attraction for me as a 1080p owner with the set in mind that I just purchased a year ago so I'm not in the market for a new televsion.  I'm putting some faith in this since I have yet to visually experience the differience.  But what if I "break down" by buying an HDR 4k television in, let's say, two years from now?  I think it's worth the $100 diference between the Slim and Pro to justify taking that chance.

I honestly do not understand why woud anyone buy a slim right now over the pro where there is so much more values in the pro and way more future proof.

There are some crazy guys, but over 100 USD that is crazy indeed... unless you preffer MS games and want UHD BD then X1S is a good option since Scorpio is still 1 year to launch.

Man, I really want to know about the science/processing behind checkerboard rendering.
There is any open scientific paper about it?

Or even a reference to a more deep explanation of how it works?

Thanks in advance
