Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Calls Scorpio “The Only Console” Capable Of “True 4K” and “Hi-Fidelity VR”

I need some help, what's the conversion rate here? How many console hi-fidelities are one PC hi-fidelity? Because we clearly can't be talking about the same measures here.

The question is how much devs would bother to make a 4K native version.

Well, first party for sure and for 3rd party I would expect every game that also has a PC release.

PS4 Pro is just an extension of the PS4 so essentially announcing the PS5 in 2017 for a 2018 release means a 5 year gap.

Not much of an extension if PS5 is coming that soon.

We're not using extension in relation to time here.

Sony could release PS5 on 2017 for all we know. And looking at what we know so far on Scorpio there isn't anything there that PS4Pro couldn't have if they wanted... Instead of downclocking they would overclock the GPU, Add a new set of GDDR5 for 12Gb... there is nothing inexistent, only not cost effective for this year.

So in 2 years if Sony is willing to change architeture of their GPU and CPU they could have another big improvement on HW. The limitant factor for both companies was just full compatibility.

And on MS discontinuing support for X1 in favor of Scorpio they could be sued because they promissed that all games that works on Scorpio would also work on X1.

Yes but they won't. It would be the same power as the Scorpio and would be a big "fuck you" to all the people who in the end arranged themself with the idea of a PS4P and even buying it, just to get another system a year later.

It's going to be interesting when MS finally show something tangible. It's kind of annoying that all they do so far is boast about a product that so far is nothing but air. Like they're currently telling us "Hey guys, don't forget about us! We'll be there for you once you've all purchased the PS4 Pro and/or the Nintendo Switch! Please, get a second job for us!". =P

Seriously though, I am 4K ready now. All I'm waiting for is for content to come out. My PC is now antiquated so I can't count on it for that. I need to buy myself a new rig. But that will be quite expensive. And since I just got myself a 4K HDR TV, am getting the PS4 Pro next month, and the Switch in march, I think a new rig will have to wait. The Scorpio is more than tempting in this situation since it's much less expensive than my future rig will cost me, and will assuredly pack quite a punch for its price. Depending on how they push it, hopefully with compelling exclusives (and that UHD BD player that Sony so moronically omitted), I will most likely be an early adopter when it comes out at the end of next year. It helps that I also don't yet have a XBox One, so with my PC not being worth crap anymore, I have been missing out on quite a few great MS exclusive games.

I would hope they'd make a 4K patch for Ori, one of my top 3 games of the current gen. But that's probably wishful thinking. xD

They released Halo last year and Gears this year, I wonder what will be the Scorpio's launch games.

This is kind of pointless when your product is not on the market...

I mean, 6TF is not that much more than 4.2 when it comes to reaching a constant native 4K resolution with "AAA" type games these days, I mean, obviously it will do it more often than the PS4 PRO, but at what cost?

and also, will Sony then start to market the PS5 (or ps4 Extreme?) when MS releases their scorpio variant so they can troll them for 2 years with some vaporware? it's kind of childish on MSs part (their whole marketing is childish in a way, they're always there trying to grab attention with whatever happen to cross their mind, then they complain when they "loose" one news cycle or when some other company has the audacity to make a counter claim).

Anyhow, the area where I see them doing better than  Sony is that I think the Scorpio will run the existing XB1 games at its full potential, risking some bugs, but giving nice frame rate benefits to all the games that will work well on it (resolution boost would need some patching as far as I understand).

To those who say "scoprio is more of a generational leap than PS4 PRO" ... this is pure marketing BS, both are a nice upgrade for their respective platform.

I don't think there will be much of a difference in the difficult to have better framerate/resolution for games pre PS4Pro comparing to Scorpio. Both would probably need as much patching, and perhaps Scorpio a little more if they want to take care of the bigger power difference

I would assume the first party stuff would be mandatory, and the third party stuff, pretty much any game with a PC release would already have it built in. Respawn was talking about the PS4P recently and basically said on PC they already have these tiers of power built into the game and it's not much work to bring that over to consoles.
