Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Calls Scorpio “The Only Console” Capable Of “True 4K” and “Hi-Fidelity VR”

I'm hoping for the best with Scorpio (including a better name) but right now, all we have are promises. Show me something.

It's like a guy coming up to a girl and saying "Yeah, your boyfriend has a house and a car but next year, I'll have a bigger house and a nicer car!" See you next year, then.

At least we know the Scorpio specs won't be lower than they already teased: 6TFLOPs, 320GB/S bandwidth, and what looks like 12GB RAM. That is a hardware upgrade worth looking forward to for a console platform.

I don't follow the mindset that  the Pro is a great upgrade and yet the much more powerful Scorpio won't be. It's silly.

I'm sure it will be. I just want to see something. I don't even want a PS4 Pro unless it can improve my (admittedly already great) experience with the PSVR. I'm positive the Scorpio will be a dramatic leap over the Xbox One but it's hard to get excited over promises.

What last gen remasters are running 720p/30 fps? The only 720p/30 fps games I can think of are Quantum Break and Dead Rising 3.

Again, I said MS's choice of words was bad. If anything, Scorpio will be able to do "True 4K" in some of the best looking 8th gen games. That's the message I assume they're going for.

Tomb Raider Definitive Edition was only 720p/ 30 FPS on XB1, vice 1080p/ 60 FPS on PS4.

Well... I respect you for giving me an answer even though its wrong.

1080p/30 fps during gameplay, 900p/30 fps during some cutscenes. I would assume SE could achieve a full 1080p with their current understanding of the hardware. The PS4 version isn't locked at 60 fps, it fluctuates between 40s and 60.

Ps4 Pros has 218GB/s
Xb1 Scorpio has 320GB/s

Scorpio has 47% more memory bandwith + 4GB more Ram

The difference between Scorpio and Pro will be the  same of the PS4 and Xbox One.

Ehhh... no.

If the Scorpio does have an extra 4GB of memory that's going to allow for superior textures, maybe it'll even help load times. And in the long run, it can help futureproof Scropio hardware.

I anticipate OG X1 will eventually be phased out for resource intensive games while Scorpio and a new X1 will be supported.

Promises from microsoft, yeah, remenber project natal and tha powah of the cloud?

Xbox fan are drooling over the 6tflops promise, but consider this, in PSX in 2017 just after the release of the all mighty Scorpio, Sony comes out and say "one year from now we will launch PS5 with 12 tflops" all of Scorpio hype could die a few days after the release.

I'm a betting man and I'm not putting my money on MS "horse" this soon, the game isn't even in the half break.

So only 2 years into the life of PS4 Pro you want a PS5?

I'm not sure fans would appreciate a new box in that short period. 2018 might be a little more reasonable for a PS5.

Sony won't have a PS5 in 2018.

1) AMD doesn't cycle so quickly.
2) The process and technology has to be there, let alone cost effective.

If Scorpio is holding out until tail end of 2017 because the process is not there until so, there surely wont be anything more powerful Sony could be designing the PS5 with today (or in the coming year) to release a year later.

These things are planned ahead of time in concert with the chip maker's capabilities/embedded GPU cycles. Scorpio is likely packing to the brim what can fit in a chip that they can sell at their target console launch pricepoint.

People having a field day claiming Scorpio is is going to so out of reach in cost surely are saying the PS5 will be $800-1000...no? Let's be realistic.

of course it won't, what i was trying to get through was that this battling for promises is way to soon for a console that is one year away against a console that is days away, that could be turned against the, now hunter, from the, now prey, next year. it would not sit well for consumers and its too soon but lets say that instead of December of 2017 they do a announcement in q2 2018 to launch mid 2019, that way the almost same effect is achieved and its a more reasonable time table.

all i'm saying is, see before believing...

Unless you provide data to back that up (for example, quotes from this forum), this is talking completely out of your ass

I have yet to see anyone that connects "1530p" (whatever that even is, perhaps coming from the same place like the other statement) or "1800p" with the Xbox One S but enlighten us with where you are basing that off because otherwise this is intential generalizing to heat up a discussion where it's not needed.

I've seen instances of people believing the Pro and X1S are comparable because they're both 'up-scaling to 4k' (this more on reddit than here), but even then it'd be an exaggeration to say they make up the majority of any group.

On a side note, 1530p is just a rounding of 2x1080p (it's about 0.3% off), which, to the best of my knowledge, is the minimum resolution needed to properly utilize checkerboard 4k. 1800p is 4k's 900p equivalent, which appears to be the standard native target.

As to my knowledge, there is no "1530p" and I doubt we will ever see that resolution in any game.

"The Cell is a thousand times faster than any other chip! Please buy a PS3."

Console marketing business as usual. But interesting that so many people who never had the slightest interest to buy a MS console anyway talk about it

I don't really understand what's interesting about that. Why do you have to want to own something to enjoy discussing it? The Scorpio is borderline redundant to me (my PC is already considerably stronger than even the most optimistic Scorpio spec predictions, and thanks to MS's W10 initiative i'll be able to run their own games at higher performance rates than the Scorpio), but it's still fun to talk about. I've never bought an AMD card either, but i still talk about them in great detail on reddit all the time. Hell, I've had several long and very enjoyable conversations here on VGC about the tech in racing sims like Forza and GT, yet i still find them mind-numbing to play.

Really though, comments like this don't serve much purpose other than to "heat up a discussion where it's not needed." as you put it in another comment. We could likewise say it's 'interesting' that many Xbox fans who previously actively mocked resolution differences and discussions are suddenly jumping at the opperunity to join in, or point out the reverse for many PlayStation fans. Doing so really doesn't accomplish much though.

Yeah, my bad for not explaining that further, of course you can't read my mind in any way.

It's not the actual fact that some people are participating but the way they do so. What I am wondering is why you say that others do that, too - it's a known fact that this is just usual behaviour

As you should know, I always like to participate in technical discussions so I know both sides and know the way they are behaving and posting. I am just the unpleasant person who often calls bullshit when people exaggerate or make false assumptions or talk bullshit in general.

If my post has heated up the discussion, I don't know but I don't really see that, considering how this thread started and seems to come to an end.

Essentially this means that people who buy a new PS4P and where not a PS4 owner before will have a system that released in 2016 and will have a successor 2 years after that.

But it is up to Sony to communicate that to the fanbase. Many already accepted the Pro and now even see something good in that so I don't think that they will have a problem communicating that.

Not much of an extension if PS5 is coming that soon.

All that power comes at a price...or a loss. Both can destroy a console launch. But I'm optimistic, maybe Microsoft found a way to make it affordable without taking a loss.
