Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Repost: Emily Rogers "Why you should be excited about (Switch)’s software output"

https://arcadegirl64.wordpress.com/2016/04/20/nxs-software-output/

Emily Rogers posted this blog month ago detailing why she thinks that the Switch will have an extremely dense line up of exclusive titles within the first year. She even claimed that the Switch would have more games in its first year than the Wii U had in 4. That's a tall order. The reason I bring this up is because she has recently gained a lot of credibility due to the accuracy of her Switch leaks which have frankly been on the nose. Even if you think she is unreliable about most things, she at least has proven to be trust worthy when it comes to the Switch, which makes this claim extremely interesting.

I still think that she is hyperbolizing, but even considering that, that is still a lot of exclusive games. Even half of what she claims would be an insane amount of exclusive games, so I think it's worth it to discuss what this could mean for the Switch now that this has more credibility behind it.

EDIT:

In this blog post, she elaborates on how they may go about achieving this.

She was dead wrong about Link being female though, has she ever addressed that again?

I actually think the density of releases is part of the reason they are laujching in March. They know they are launching mid gen. And even if the Switch is in the ballpark of the Xbone in power, they know they are launching against the Pro and later the Scorpio. So they don't want to have to fight for add time with either. They also want the first year to be super strong with as much attention on them as humanly possible. By launching in March, they cut out December, January and February. So instead of spreading releases between launch and Holiday 2017 over 12 months, they can take that lineup and squish it into 9. By doing so, big names land more frequently along with whatever 3rd parties show up to keep them in headlines constantly. I also fully expect them to capitalize on the 3 months chopped off by moving a title or two to Holidays so they can hit hard at E3. Also, expect that 3D Mario to be Holidays to give them a strong answer to Scorpio.

I don't really believe any rumors of any kind, so I won't be trusting this, but if the NS did have a large amount of software available for it in its 1st year, that will be so awesome! And they better not be a bunch of ports and remasters either!

We've only seen so much of the game that anything can still happen/be included...........

The output should be really good because you're going from 2 systems to just 1, so they better at least get that part right, that just seems like no problem.

Yeah, and she was dead right about BotW having voice acting.

Crazy how some leaks are right and others wrong...

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

If there only was a third option :P

..

OT: I feel end of Wii U games for the 2nd half of 2016 is because they have already moved their projects to the Switch. 3DS are getting a few ports so obviously the 3DS teams have been switched over as well. So while this is a rumour, I think it's definitely possible

Yeah, I think the prospect of what the is talking about is exciting. Not so much as a fan of their games, but as a follower of them as a business. Them having this kind of constant flow of games reminds me a lot of Disney Channel, where they would always have original shows and made for TV movies come out year round. Because of the frequency of new things coming out, that channel always had this amazing ecosystem, and it's made me really nostalgic about them in retrospect.

Nintendo has a great back catalogue of games obviously, but I don't think they've ever had a stride that matches what Emily claims will be coming to the Switch, and that will be extremely exciting to watch happen if it turns out to be true. Expecially if they don't have to think about making a new Mario Kart and Smash right away.

I'm never going to be able to play the amount of games Emily is proposing because I don't have the time or the money, but it's more about the kind of envorinment that kind of output creates. The feeling that there's constantly something new coming out. It felt a little bit like that earlier this year, when we were getting Twilight Princess HD, Pokken, Star Fox, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions back-to-back-to-back. Even doubling that output in the same amount of time would be overwhelming to see, and would create constant buzz.

99% of the game will likely be text. So she was wrong there as well as far as I'm concerned. One or two voiced lines is irrelevant.
