Nah it's not. Making crazy predictions is just fun.

However, claiming that 'it will definitely sell over X or under Y', is indeed very stupid.

It's not only about the numbers but also the cocky attitude of some users. By the time the thread was created all the talk about Nintendo was they're are out of touch with the market and completely done with hardware business ("Nintendo should go 3rd party right now", anyone?).

 

Also you can find "3DS will not reach the 70 million mark" claims in this thread

I know when the Switch was first revealed I was perturbed for a couple of weeks and didn't completely get over it until around the January presentation.  If I made any kind of prediction during that time it would have been out of pure spite.

I believe the Nintendo Switch will sell over 160 million units, surpassing both Nintendo DS and Sony Playstation 2. This is based on two reasons. 1) It sold over 12 million units despite shortages. 2) It is a Hybrid console, catering to both groups.
