With Nintendo Switch (NS) now a known device, we are still left with a ton of open questions regarding its specs, functionality and of course games. Nintendo is keeping quiet until 2017 on the rest of this information for reasons unknown, but it is likley just to allow themselves and their partners to focus on advertising holiday content instead of future content.
One feature I'd like to suggest based on what we know so far is VR.
The NS is tablet system with individually separate joy-con controllers. We know the screen size is around 6" based on several solid sources and we can assume the joy-cons have wiimoteplus-like motion functionality. The formfactor, Nintendo's history and Just Dance being a confirmed game all suggest that motion is included in this console.
So why do I think VR is also included? Phones.
That is the Google Daydream VR device. It is very similar to other VR devices from Samsung and other mobile companies. The device itself doesn't have any significant hardware as the hardware exists within the phone. The device is just headgear designed to allow VR via the phone.
Why can't NS do the same thing?
It is a 6" tablet-ish device that is not much larger than most phones. Weight could be a factor of course. But the form-factor and the fact that it has two, seemingly perfect, motion-enabled controllers provides a lot of support to this theory. That and we know Nintendo has more secrets to tell us about.
Personally, I'm not interested in VR at all. If it did come with the system, I'd completely ignore the functionality. But that doesn't mean Nintendo couldn't technically do it and without much extra cost. The only additional cost would be the accessory that would be bought separately and therefore cover its own costs.
Oh and don't toss out that it may not be powerful enough. NS is at worst as powerful as any phone on the market.
Well, where do you stand? VR or no VR in NS and why?
