Forums - Nintendo Discussion - RUMOR: Switch has Touchscreen, More Powerful When Docked, & Mediocre Battery Life

However the dock helps the NS, it won't be centered around completing with other consoles or getting third party support. It will just be to provide an optimized home console experience.

Providing extra power to the system can mean a big difference in performance.

"The dock is not the main console unit of Nintendo Switch. The main unit of Nintendo Switch is the unit that has the LCD screen, which the two Joy-Con controllers can be attached to and detached from. The main function of the Nintendo Switch Dock is to provide an output to the TV, as well as charging and providing power to the system."

Yes. Providing power. As in, the electrical kind.

If you read my whole post without feeling the need to knee-jerk react you'd realize I understood that when I said, "Providing extra power to the system can mean a big difference in performance. " . I am sure you know that extra computational performance requires more power input for various reasons.

main function =/= not all functions.

Which is why I bolded it.

I keep seeing this, why have a portable screen that is not touch screen? Who said originally that it was not touch screen?

When asked if it had a touch screen, Nintendo said they will detail it's specs in 2017. Because the trailer didn't feature any touch interactions, people came to their own conclusions

Even if true, that could mean there's nothing more than an upscaling chip/HDMI processing chip in the base.

It doesn't mean that it's going to make games run better.

thats probably all it is, im not expecting any huge graphical/performance upgrade.

I hope so, but didn't Nintendo say the dock doesn't give extra power?

Yep. I'm expecting the dock to activate the active cooling mechanism and increase the clock/performance of the hardware within the actual NS itself. The dock will want to be very cheap as it will be included in the base bundles, after all this is a home console first and foremost, but they will need to upscale the video to 1080p. So expect the dock to not have any special CPU/GPU but instead turn on the active cooling and overclock the system.

3hr battery life is kinda bad. That is even worse than what 3DS originally had when you turned 3D off.

Touchscreen seems obvious. I think they didn't want to show that as they are trying to keep the message simple. At this point, the message is focused on the ability to switch between home and portable functionality.

2017 reveal will focus on games and then show off any other functionality such as touch (menus), apps (android), NFC (amiibo), motion (just dance), force feedback, and VR (think how phone vr works).

Pretty much all of this. Not so sure about VR due to the screen resolution but we'll soon find out

What if certain games couldnt run in handheld mode, but could only stream a la Wi U (or not at all). That could be a sucky reality. That cradle is pretty big to be a glorified charging dock.

Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda Muda!!!!

Maybe the dock has an 4k upscaler and the console get some extra processing power due to be connected to energy instead using its battery, just like a normal laptop.
