Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Nintendo officially quit console gaming. Switch is a handheld system

Still surprised how Nintendo was so silent to give out detail about something that basically bring nothing new to the table.

I wouldn't say that, the "two people playing with half controllers" is pretty unorthodox, though I don't think it'll be used much if at all by regular users.

What the hell are you even talking about?

"so much ignorance"

What ignorance? The things said in OP come straight out of the horse's mouth, do you know better than Nintendo?

"it is a gaming console"

Of course it is, when you play the semantics game anything that has something resembling a game is a gaming console, my old Tamagochi as well! When people say "console" it's clear what they mean by that, there's a clear distinction between consoles and handheld. The Switch is basically a handheld, you will never need to connect it to the dock to play games.

"no justification for negative reaction or pessimism"

There's no negative reaction, I'm not dooming or glooming Nintendo, I'm not even giving my opinion. Just stating the facts.

I have to disagree with you, there are home consoles & handheld consoles, both are consoles! The Switch is first & foremost a handheld console to use Nintendo phrasing, not a home console like they say.

& just to be factual, you'll need to connect it to the dock to play games, because you need to charge it ;P but I get what you say & agree, you won't need it to be hooked to the TV to play it, you can spend a lifetime playing it on the go, so definitly 1st & foremost a handheld console!!!

But guys, why not flip this around? I could use the Switch as a home console all the time and never take it out of the dock as well. I can spend a lifetime playing it on my TV, so definitely 1st & foremost a home console!!!

With the Switch I can play a game like Breath of the Wild on the TV just like I'd do with the Wii u, so I don't see how it can't be considered a console.

If it succeeds it will be a new disruptive video game technology that redefines what a home console or handheld is, just like how the iPhone redefined the cell phone industry.

That would be like taking a RV, ripping the wheels off of it, and calling it a house. I mean you can do it. Its your RV. But that isn't what it was meant for.

Feeling great about this. Hope they won't release too many new Amiibo until Switchs release

It is disruptive but in another way. Its social mobile gaming having "real" games. Excactly what the introduction video was about. That going to be a real switch...

Man the more i hear about this thing the more disappointed i become. I hope the tablet is at least as powerful as an Xbox One

It's meant to give you options. Whether you use them or not is up to you. And as some others have pointed out, it's the way you use it that defines what it is. If I use it as a home console, it's a home console.
