What do you think it contains? It seems quite large, so more than just a charger? What is the bulky back hump?

Cooling fan inside for boost mode?

I'm hoping it provides extra power just because I want the NS to at least be at Xbox One power level bare minimum, that way it can still get third party ports.

A charging cradle with hdmi output, potentially an upscaler, that's it.

Something to improve the online functionality. I love the 3DS, but it really needs to improve its online component, and a direct connection would solve it.

Tvs do upscale, you dont need an standart upscaler on the dock.
i think is just the way to charge and wire the content to TV. plus a place for plug HD and usb acessories, like smash GC adapter and skylanders paddle.

It could have a GPU but its just very unlikely. If anything, its there to charge and connect to the TV. On the side, I believe it has usb ports so maybe you can connect an external hard drive to it. But I doubt it will be like "zomg power" with it. Cause if that was the case, I just dont get why they wouldnt advertise it in some way.

I think the docking station will have a Ethernet port, a Wii sensor bar port, USB, and wishfully the wii A/V out port too along with HDMI.

Well, the NS is basically a Tablet and so far tablets have never needed a docking station for charging nor doing TV output.  

So yes, I do believe there is some extra power in that piece.

No, but it's a hell of a lot tidier and more refined than having to plug in AC power and a HDMI.

The 3ds had a cradle, it needed one a hell of a lot less than the NX.
