Its pushing Nintendo >> SEX

That is the new marketing, i think. I'm so proud :).

Switch is going to explode in Japan, I bet Nintendo has already contacted Capcom for preparations of a Monster Hunter game.

It's the right way to go because whenever they come with fanfare, people will come out and bash them. It has happened time and time again.

They need to play on the undercurrent, and imho it's going to work.

I'm not sure that this is better than a conference. Critics will come one way or another and a small annoucement risks not getting exposure and reaching the public.

Anyway, an announcement is only damaging when you announce stuff that piss people off (like X1 E3 announcement). Nintendo did not said anything that would make people mad, just showed neat features and a promissing idea. What they need to do now is heavy marketing. Really heavy, using a lot of cash. We have 1 new X1 model, 2 new PS4s and PSVR, so they have to fight for the money. I'm more inclined to put my cash at least on Switch than on another PS4 (more of the same, really), VR (may be fad) or a X1S (way too much games in common with PS4).

As soon as the price is right, it will be big there. It's basically what Japaneses games have beem clamoring for quite some time: portability but with home console grade games, no more simplified spin-offs.

I said it elsehwere but it was very much this ad from Sony in terms of theme and tone.

And there is no need to market to kids.  Kids are always looking ahead.  When I was little, I dreamed about one day riding a dirt bike like my cousin.  If you market to young adults and teenagers then you're also marketing to younger kids, too.

I suppose, yes, similar theme and tone. Of course, products in the same market tend to have ads with a fair amount of homogeneity. Cars commercials are probably the best example. Good catch though.

It looks like NIntendo might be setting up some esports with a splatoon sequel. That could be major there.

It made very clear what the Switch is, how it can be used and what kind of games it'll play. I'd say yes.

YES! It made me hype as fuck, and I think "normal" people whould have no problems understanding it. Especially when the "Wii"-name is now gone.
