Just what I thought.

BTW consoles are still popular in Japan.  The ps4 sells Japan like numbers in the UK,  France,  Germany etc.  We wouldn't say consoles aren't popular in those other nations.

Those countries are less than half the size of Japan (in population, ie. potential customers), so only selling around that level doesn`t exactly make Japan look good.

Sure look at India and China populations.

Fact is they sell similar thus are big console gaming markets.

No, thats not how it works. Even in a prefect scenario where the Switch sells 20 million+ units in Japan, the PS4 will still do fairly well for 2 big reasons: 1. It will have full Japanese support, as developers cannot make it in the west without the PS4 (lets be honest, anyone thinking that the Switch is a threat for the PS4 is simply put nuts) 2. Its pretty much confirmed that the Switch is weaker than the PS4, so software support will be differentiated.

Worldwide?Sure.Japan? Not at all.I mean, 3DS is far more popular there than PS4.Hell, Vita total sales are still higher there than the PS4.

I dont mean that PS4 sales will fall off a cliff.Of course it wont. But if you compare Switch and PS4 in Japan, Switch has the potential, and its just the potential, of outselling week-by-week sales of the PS4 and eventually sell so much more than the PS4.I mean, it potentially appeals to handheld and console fans, and as a handheld, it is impressive. So 25+ million is really possible there, since Vita owners and 3DS owners could jump to it.

The potential is there indeed, but there is still nothing that we can go on right now. We do not now the pricing and bundling skills, hell except its exterior we really do not know nothing about it

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

It should do really well in Japan, agreed. I think it will be its best market by some margin.

Except UK, France, Germany etc aren`t really big console gaming markets. Europe as a whole is, sure, but the individual countries, not so much.

Unlike India (and formerly China) Japan has the economy to support a large market and most importantly the history of having a large console market. Japan used to be easily bigger than any individual European country so to be compared to them now just shows how much the market their has declined.

I'm sorry but the UK is a big market.  And so are the others like Germany,  France and Spain.

They are just not behemoths like continental markets like the EU, NA.

Japan is no longer a behemoth that can stand toe to toe with continents.  It's now downgraded to a big market in the same league as the likes of the UK,  Germany and France.

Remember,  declined ≠ not big.

We obviously just have different definitions of what big is...

Haha yeah.  But you can't deny it,  Japan is one of the biggest single country console markets.  People are always negative about Japan because of the big decline but there's no denying it's still big.

As soon as I saw the reveal I thought of Japan. This thing was made for Japanese gamers! MS is likely to be forced to give up there entirely. Also if this takes off elsewhere we may be looking at Wii-like sales again for Ninty.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

MS will contribute to it by putting Minecraft on it! That shit is selling AMAZINGLY on the Vita, Ps4 and on the Wii U in Japan!

Pretty much. All japanese gamers care about over there is JRPGS and Nintendo 1st party content. The Switch will easily be able to cater to those audiences. Dragon Quest XI and Splatoon...fully playable on the go and at home...the thing is going to kill any other console on the market.

So you thibk ps4 will stop selling now?

Maybe. It depends on how japanese 3rd parties support NX. It seems like a very approachable system. It's more powerful than the Vita, Wii U, and it's getting ports from PS4. The thing is in a good place to succeed in Japan. Now they only need 1 device to play games, that's going to be very appealing over there.

It won't even get half the games ps4 gets and the Playstation fanbase is different to thr Nintendo one.  The ps4 will do just fine.

We don't really know that... 3DS is killing it and I know that Nintendo will eventually let the 3DS down. 3DS is doing very well against vita and as a console in general. If Switch gets the 3rd party support it is recieving now with 3DS, it'll be a wrap for Playstation in Japan. Consoles are a dying breed over there, this thing is going to bridge the gap and redefine what we think a console or a handheld should be. PS has only recently outsold Wii U in Japan, if it were that big over there, we'd seen PS4 outsell Wii U within the first year  which didn't happen, or even the second year. Japan is very mobile, I think this will change things over there.

In the US, this thing will have another story but in Japan, if NX gets support from Level 5, Sega, Capcom, Konami, Square Enix (which it most likely will), NX will be a runaway success in Japan.
