If a gamer like me cannot figure out where to use it, what would the more mainstream gamers think of it? Casuals obviously aren't going to buy it.

Brother, you would not know how to drink water if Nintendo bottled it for you.

As an analogy, they'd make a cheap bottle with highly chlorinated swimming pool water in it that neither useful for drinking nor useful to fill a swimming pool.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

The idea is great. I hope the controller is comfortable to use, cos what iv seen from the trailer doesnt look comfortable at all.

Biggest disappointment: no new announced game. We got to see a glimpse of skyrim and new mario game, but after bethesda denies its skyrim support for NS, im afraid they're all just bullshots.

Wishlist: 3ds and wiiu backward compatibility

I just want confirmation that stuff like Pokemon and Fire Emblem will be on the console and it really is just a combination of home console and handheld libraries.

I don't want there to be a dedicated handheld in 2018/19

Instead they showed Skyrim which Bethesda refused to even mention whether it was even in development for the Switch. That means all of that video of a switch user playing Skyrim was simply "concept video" and nothing more. Nintendo fans would have gotten way more excited about the Switch if they showed Pokemon Sun/Moon instead.

So can somebody tell me what's the definition of gimmick? What's gimmicky about portability? What's gimmicky about having detachable controls which allow you to play outside easily, in a trip with your friends or something? Also, it's very Nintendo-like, trying to have a focus in social gaming. Kind of refreshing after all this VR hype lately.

gimmick is typically defined as a special feature for the sake of a special feature, something that really doesnt have a meaningful purpose and is just there to be different.

based on that, i wouldnt really consider Switch to be gimmicky since the concept of consolidating their two product lines into one serves an actual purpose.

I think the detachable controllers are a bit of a gimmick. They're not even symmetical. The two different halves will feel different in your hand depending on which side you get. Furthermore, you're literally halving your control options by splitting a controller in half. How good is it going to be trying to control a game with one thumbstick instead of two? With 1-2 shoulder buttons instead of 4?

Using those mini controllers in two player mode is probably going to suck pretty bad.

God bless you. Every time someone uses "gimmick" as a bludgeon against Nintendo, I die a little inside.

Anyway, Switch has me excited in a way that iterative consoles like Scorpio and Pro fail to capture. The Switch represents new ways to play and, more importantly, share games. It's not just more power under the hood.

Yes, Nintendo fans. If you look at it rationally, other than being a fan of the Nintendo IPs, gamers have no real reason to get this over a PS4 or X1.

I don't think it'll be some huge hit with the PS4/XB1 crowds (the design is I think point in fact specifically the way it is so Nintendo does not have to compete directly with Sony or MS anymore) .... buuuuuuut I can see motivation for a PS4/X1 type gamer to buy this in some cases even if they don't like Nintendo games.

Being able to play some games like NBA2K or FIFA or Skyrim or Monster Hunter or Mortal Kombat or Calladooty on a plane/bus/subway ride is pretty cool.

And it actually looks pretty slick too, it doesn't look like a child's toy which Nintendo is sometimes guilty of, it looks like a Sony or Apple or (heh) Nvidia product. Not too shabby in that regard.

I'm getting NBA 2K for Switch for example, whereas I wouldn't buy it for Wii U because you might as well get it for PS4 in that case. But on Switch I can play it anywhere, which appeals to me.

You know that NBA, Fifa, etc on the go was the proposition of PSP and Vita, one suceeded (but still sold half of DS) and the other bombed (but still above WiiU), so I'm not sure that will be enough to get other bases to Nintendo.

To me this would be quite simple and go together with fad... something designed as special feature that get everyone interessed at first but dies off fast.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

So, what are people thoughts on the 3-hour battery life?

Outside of local multiplayer on the tablet screen, what about it hasn't been done before? Everything else that was shown has been done before. I think it looks very well done, but there's nothing very innovative or market shaking about Switch.

I showed the trailer to my youngest kid. He really liked the whole concept of the 2 in 1, and that he could play home console games anywhere he wanted. He wanted to know if he can play his 3DS games on it too. (I guess the answer to that is no).

I like the idea of it, but I want to know more. What I don't like is the tiny controllers, which are just going to get lost.
