It might just be the hub area of the game? It will probably be a holiday 2017 game, so they still have 13 months.

It just seems that the themes for these two levels seem too specific to be a main hub, unless the game is themed on Mexico and other random world countries, which could actually be pretty cool if done right.
Holiday 2017 sounds right. Can't imagine it being out in 5 months. Can't imagine a 3D mario game taking significantly more than a year from reveal to launch either.

I think I'll just wait for further judgement because it's really hard to tell from just these two shots. But at least it looks like a step in the right direction.

Oh I meant only the town place was the hub.

3D World sequel!

Nope, looked more like a Mario 64 type game to me.

And thats a good thing, those games where much more enjoyable.

The triple jump + slide, the yellow/red coins, and that giant floating heart (that reminds me of those big stars you collect in 64).

The camra that follows always 3rd person abit behinde him (instead of being seen from the side like in SM3DW).

Also look at the UI, theres no timer counting down! Your free to explore and run around as you like in this game.

This is a Mario 64 / Galaxy / Sunshine style Mario game.

graphically this Mario looks potentially awesome, I've never seen a sky like that in a Mario game. excited :o hopefully its its own world, kind of like Sunshine and Galaxy were

It looked more like a concept thing. Really lacked the polish of a big Nintendo game even though its early footage.

I think that sums it up pretty well. Especially that second shot had a lot of hard edges on everything. When they said that this is is the reason the NX reveal was delayed, I believe it. They just now got it in a barely good enough state that it could trick people into thinking that it's complete for the 5 or so seconds it's on screen.

The first shot in the Mexico place looked really barren outside of the buildings. I can't figure out why the ground is just plain orange. Other than that I think it looks more like a traditional 3D mario game with the behind Mario perspective, and the second level reminded me of Shifting Sand Land from 64. Even though it looks more in the vein of 64/Sunshine, something about the game world seems very static. I think it will take time to see whether that's due to design or the game being in early development.

EDIT: More clarification in 2nd paragraph.

haha hilarious,  A) the 5 seconds of footage didn't look bad at all, B) you seriously think 5 seconds is enough to draw what you have from it? someone has slow moed the Mario footage and its looked fine, and C) its Mario, what sort of advanced scenery do you honestly expect

It's not a new Mario reveal. In the Wii U reveal they showed some cool Zelda footage that was never used.

Yeah U reveal one was a pseudo interactive CGI where you could play with lighting etc. This looks playable. The town looks like something from sunshine but with things frozen instead of muddy. While there is a playable world shown else where.
