Sony has a better brand
Speaking with GamingBolt, the ubiquitous industry analyst, who yesterday suggested that Red Dead Redemption 2 would not prove as popular as Grand Theft Auto V, said that PS4’s recent lull in sales will pick up and give Sony the edge over the lucrative holiday season.
“Strong is relative, and I actually think that the announcement of the PS4 Pro probably froze some people and caused them not to buy PS4 Slim, because they are waiting,” said Pachter. “I think Sony will still dominate in non English speaking countries, because they have a better brand. If you are up in France, or Italy, or Spain, or Germany, playing a PS1, then you love the PlayStation brand. And Xbox really didn’t have a successful console until the Xbox 360, and they gained some ground, but I think they lost bad at least half of that with the Xbox One.
“So Sony is good. And the fact is that the PS4 Slim costs less than the Xbox One S, so I actually think that Sony has a huge advantage over Microsoft for the next few months. So yes, I think Microsoft will sell a lot, yes, I think they will consider this a very successful year, and yes, I think, PlayStation will outsell Xbox.”
Sony launched the PS4 Slim back in September, although sales of the trimmed console couldn’t match those of the Xbox One S, which arrived one month earlier. Nonetheless, the arrival of the Slim did allow retailers to flog the standard PS4 at a much cheaper price, leading to some temporary bargains and a solid boost in sales for Sony’s flagship console.
PS4 Pro release date set for November
While Microsoft is waiting until next holiday season to launch its new Xbox console, dubbed the Scorpio, Sony already has its mid-cycle update coming on November 10 in the form of the PS4 Pro. Featuring more powerful specs than the PS4 Slim, the Pro allows for 4K gaming, offering high resolution and improved frame rates.
Sony has already confirmed a number of titles set to utilise the power of PS4 Pro, including Horizon: Zero Dawn, Final Fantasy 15, Resident Evil 7: biohazard, and many more. Furthermore, a HDR update means gamers can now enjoy the likes of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us with added benefits.
