Forums - Sales Discussion - Blu-ray killing hddvd in Europe.

Blu Ray is killing HD-DVD everywhere ,thats pretty clear .Hd-DVD is alreadyu wiped out of Japan and the eastern market where BR has 96% of the market .It is already losing in NA and in Europe .Yes ,the 100K users of HD-DVD are buying movies like fanatics with a lobby-like mentality that is complemented with a hathred towards Sony like true sectarists and arrange in their forums "sales days " to buy movies and equal the balance but ....thats it .They are a very small and niche group that can put up a good fight spending nearly all their money in movies from 4 companies ...that isnt sustainable in the long run and the fact is that BR is winning without too much effort on casual movie sales by PS3 users.Sony is reducing the prices real fast for the blu diodes and I expect BR to fall in price faster than HD-DVD ....its a question of time BR wipes out HDDVD from existence ,theres no denying it .In any case the BR technology is superior (better storage capacity ,better transfer speed, better protection of the disks ,etc ) and for the general public the BR win will be a good thing .The best would be HD-DVD dying quickly ...the most people that buy that format the most people will get screwed .

As you've yet to offer any evidence to the contrary all you really can do is assume that I am, in fact, an expert, or at least right, lol.

I suppose you believe this Warner Bros. two side discs (HD and SD, BTW also available for BD) are standard for HDDVD... Time to wake up.

Funny thing is the same people claiming that Blu-ray is owning the market are the same people who say the PSP are PS3 are in good shape, even though the PSP and PS3 have much lower market shares than HD-DVD.

Those people arent saying that the PS3 is in good shape because of their marketshares - they are saying that the PS3 is still in good shape because they have a lot of interesting stuff coming to it in the future.

HD-DVD camp doesnt really have anything specific to point to in order to come back.

55% - is that the US figure or the global figure? Seeing as Blueray has 96% of the japanese market and 80% of the European market (i saw these figures today, dunno if they are correct to be fair), what are the shares on the US market? HDDVD should be market leader in the US segment in order to get the 55% global  figure correct, no? Or are euro/japanese sales so low they dont really affect the global market that much?

Are blueray gamedisks also included in these stats?

US it's around 55% for bluray and the link on the first post says European is 64% for bluray as for Japan I don't know. The main thing the hddvd camp has in order to come back is the price of the players which will be under 200.00 by the end of the year and they might not have all the blockbusters like spiderman and pirates coming out but they do have a nice list of titles coming out with some blockbusters also.

All HD-DVDs work as hybrids, just like SACD audio format. HD-DVDs work on both DVD and HD-DVD players, and SACDs work on both CD and SACD players, simple really.

Simple but it's not true.

Edit:

Give me  one title.

I not familiar of any HD-DVDs that currently aren't hybrid format but I suppose it is possible. Regardless the DVD Forum is pushing to have this feature standardized in all upcomming HD-DVD titles. So we can assume all future HD-DVDs will be hybrids. Sorry a couple early launch titles don't fall under one of the two possible HD-DVD hybrid format structures but that doesn't set the pace for the format as a whole. :)

The SOny haters are just the same Blu Ray haters .....and sadly they are a race that has quite a stronghold in the little world of gaming sites forums .

And reality too if you haven't noticed the Wii sales.

Unfortunately the numbers don't seem to be on HD-DVD's side, I would like to see HD-DVD prevail but its a hard call with so few supporting it exclusively. If only Blu-Ray supported hybrids and Porn I would take their side.
