Forums - Sales Discussion - Blu-ray killing hddvd in Europe.

http://www.pocket-lint.co.uk/news/news.phtml/7817/8841/PlayStation3-gives-Blu-ray-discs-boosts.phtml

"in the week after PS3 was launched in Europe, Blu-ray discs accounted for almost 87% of all HD disc sales"

They really need to step up and kill of hddvd as fast as possible, the whole "only console with the super advanced Hd format" make for some good marketing.

I wonder how big a boost would hddvds death be for PS3 and Sony overall.  (sure would make PS3 costs easier to deal with)

this is pretty nice news. I'll make sure to contribute to the blu-ray sales later this year when I pick up my PS3.

Was it a surprise that the Week after 1 Million Blu-Ray enabled devices were sold that Blu-Ray dominated in the tiny HD-Movie market? After all, most people who bought a PS3 would buy (at least) one movie to try out the feature.

The question is whether it will still be as popular in 6 months.

^^ yes i agree completely.

The next-gen market is still ripe for the taking, and its anyone's game. Sony needs to boost the sales of the PS3 - with games - to help them with the BluRay war (not the other way around). I still have 0% interest in either format, and won't care until players drop to below $150-$200AU ($99US), AND movies are priced within 10% of DVD titles. If all this does is push the price of DVDs down - I'll be a happy boy, and will stick to my DVD format (buying less than 5 a year as it is...).

Well, we really don't know how well either format is really doing ... Last somewhat reliable source I saw stated that Blu-Ray was sitting at roughly 55% marketshare with HD-DVD at 45% and they were growing at similar rates. If you have a more recent article I'd like to see it.

yeah i won't be getting any of them until one of the format wins 90% market share

avsforum has plenty numbers if you want to look for them.

For 07 Bly-ray has taken 68% of the market, overall Br has 57% of hd sales.
