Forums - Sony Discussion - Everything wrong with psvr

Try wearing it without glasses, I wear glasses and could see perfectly fine using PSVR without them. The light coming through the bottom, set up headset like normal and once set up lift the band up at the back of your head and you can close the gap up pretty good.

If you have to wear glasses for PSVR it works fine but not as great as using it wothout.

You have a more pronounced SDE with Pentile. But the Resolution is higher. So things look sharper more detailed. Black levels well Oculus had a red tint issue its mostly resolved now.

TBH for me the picture quality is the biggest issue in VR in general. I am hoping for dual 4k screens full rgb and HDR next gen. This alone will elevate the experience to the next level. Lightfield Displazs Eyetracking 140 FOV the future is bright after that who knows.

I love VR its such a nice experience to be able to actually see everything in scale and with real depth. I am happy about PSVR making the marketplace more relevant so we can get more software and hardware improvments. Cant wait for RE7 VR to come to PC. VR saved gaming for me I was almost out for good. Now I am excited and eager to see what the future holds.

I don't think there's any chance you see dual 4K screens for VR next gen. My prediction is that you'll see a single 4K screen on the PC vr headsets and PSVR2 will use a 3,200 by 1,800 display.

But! Because resolution is so low now, the jump in quality will be huge for the user. HDR I think will show up in the next generation though.

I also expect eye tracking to show up in one form or another, and I expect field of view to improve.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Highly disappointed with psvr, going to shelve it for awhile.

Samsung is already working on an 11k 5" screen for 2018. 5.5k per eye will be great, and with eye tracking plus foveated rendering it should put a lot less strain on gpu/cpu requirements.

Agreed, seeing things life size around you, freely being able to move your head to get a closer look is worth all the current issues. Wayward sky is made to play sitting down, yet I found myself getting up all the time to look behind things, underneath, peek overhead etc.

Nice review.

It reconfirms my original thinking. VR is something that has potential but again probably rushed a little too early. 10 years from now probably would have been better when the resolution is greater, less cables and more importantly cheaper.

You have to start somewhere. 3D games on ps1 were also 10 years early, yet by the time consoles had the rendering power they had also figured out the controls and best way to make them.

I find it very exciting to step in at the bottom. Live through the early rush of game ideas, working out control schemes, how to handle different viewpoints etc, what works and what doesn't. We're at the start of the 90's for VR games. Now is the time for creativity, refinement comes later.

The ps3 graphics thing is because VR requires a beefy machine to play good visual games with a decent framerate, and ps4 isn't.

A powerful PC + HTC Vive are the way to go if you want a good VR experience.

Actually ps3 graphics are good enough for the resolution the current screens offer. Though games have to build from the ground up though to make it a good experience. RIGS and Wayward sky look great, Rez looks amazing. Know your limits, design within it :)

There will be a point when VR graphics will overtake screen graphics when foveated rendering comes into play. Hopefully Fove will be a success too. For now there are plenty ps2 games I would like to play in VR. Silent Hill 2, Ratchet and Clank, top of the list. SotC in VR, I want to feel the size of those bosses. My perspective has changed after trying PSVR. I thought it was best suited to racing and flying, yet those types of games demand a lot of attention in the distance where low resolution screens become a problem. Games that focus on the mid range are much better suited to the current crop of headsets.

If it's not going to be a one generation wonder it might well be a must buy for the 9th gen. PSVR2 will be better, PS5 will have much better specs for delivering Uncharted/Bloodborne graphics through VR. They will have a better motion controller (they damn well better). The tech will be cheaper. The tech may be wireless. Though battery pack means a heavier, bulkier unit, possibly with heat issues. So maybe fewer wires.

Wireless will be a problem for a while.
PSVR pushes 5.5 Gbps through the hdmi lead (1080p120)
OR and Vive 5.2 Gbps (2160x1200x90) or maybe 2.6 Gbps if the pentile conversion is already done before the image reaches the headset.

Current 5GHZ bandwidth goes upto 300 mbps, about 7% of what's needed. The new 802.11ac wifi can theoretically do it, utilizing 8 bands, however a 4K screen will quadruple the necessary bandwidth again.

Sending compressed data will add lag, which wireless transmission already adds as well. It seems wireless will be the last thing to be solved unless we have some amazing breakthrough in consumer level wireless tech.

I'm not so sure about HDR.

Afaik you need high brightness for a good HDR experience, but not only do OLED lag behind conventional screens in brightness, the VR HMDs also use "low persistance" (the frame is only displayed for a few ms instead of until the next frame is rdy) to make sure the picture always is clear even during heavy movement, which lowers the brightness quite a bit compared to normal mode.

I say it again. Vr in general is a fad.

I echo this.

I'll get one once its been on the market a little longer, i want to see if this thing will get support. Already been burnt by the Vita and the WiiU, don't need another dud in my wardrobe.

You were "burnt" by the Vita? Rich.

What's rich?

It could use 10 bit wide color gamut though. Color gradient banding is visible and would only get worse with higher resolutions.
High brightness is not really needed as the display isn't competing with any ambient light. Even deeper blacks will have a bigger impact. I'm not sure if it's the upscaling or something else yet Rush of blood has noticeable grey blacks while when using the headset as a virtual screen it can produce pure black.
