This all sounds like bullshit

Supermetaldave is usually pretty sober... I guess we will know by the end of this week.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Nintendo is not going for the power route. The only ones that want power are the big multiplat publishers, and after two gens, Nintendo can't take them for granted.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

It is true. It's always been true.

"Nintendo sells Wii U basic version for $299 and more advanced deluxe flavor at $349. The bill-of-materials of Nintendo Wii U is not precisely known, however, the company itself claims that it starts to make money on Wii U once it sells one game title for $50 - $60. Therefore it is highly likely that the manufacturing cost of Wii U is very close to break-even point."

That quote says it`s not true though...

If they`re not making any money without a game sale then the Wii U is obviously not being sold at a profit. It doesn`t matter if it`s close to the break even point or not, a loss is still a loss regardless of how small it may be.

It wasn't being sold at a loss either at the time of release. The BoM was estimated to be about $228 for the basic set.

Wii U RAM (2GB) $6, Wii U Flash Memory (8GB model) $6, case and everything else ($79), processor $40

Wii U console itself total cost: $228

Game Pad components: $30

Wii U Game Pad total cost: $79 (they say the Wii U Game Pad's 6.2 inch display costs $24)

So, $7.
You want to split hairs for the sake of being argumentative rather than presenting an argument, that's fine.
But to suggest the Nintendo would incur the type of losses per unit that would be required to sell PS4 Pro level specs with a high res display and LiPo battery pack sufficient to make it a portable device at a starting price of $299 is an argument I'm not going to buy without some real logic.

I don't want to believe it, because that would mean it would be expensive. And I don't want that. On the bright side, people may realize once and for all that a powerful and expensive Nintendo console has no future and will stop asking for that after seeing almost non of the people who complaint about The Wii and Wii U being underpowered will buy this hypothetical NX.

My point was more that they`d be willing to take a loss if they thought it worthwhile. I certainly don`t think they`d take any big kind of loss like you say a PS4 pro level portable would make. But assuming this rumour is probably false, then I`d say that their console not being that powerful but still powerful enough to incur a small loss at that price is still a possibility.

$7-8.

It was estimated that Nintendo sold the GC at about an $8 loss upon release. Estimate. Nintendo may well have sold them at near dead even cost. Same goes for the Wii U.

Based upon those two instances in which Nintendo did not initially profit on a piece of hardware, under $10 appears to be what they are willing to give up upon release of new hardware.

The PS4 Pro is estimated to have a BoM of $381. Add a high res display and a 10,000 mAh minimum battery to that BoM and you are looking at a BoM of well over $400. Not slightly over. Well over $400.

Is anyone out there suggesting Nintendo could sell that or would be willing to sell that at $299?

The more I fact check on this and the less anyone is providing anything to the contrary, I'm finding this rumor to be less and less likely by the minute.

Nintendo has said that they will make a profit from each NX sold. Does Sony make anything from each PS4Pro sold?

Estimated BoM of $381. About even.
