Everything Hosoda did these past years have been amazing. I can't believe he started out with the first Digimon Movie lol.
Consider checking out Makoto Shinkai too. Kimi no na wa just came out and looks incredible.

Me too :)

I consider the beast and the boy his weakest work so far. Wolf Children is by far his strongest.

weakest or strongest.. well.. both movies are awesome :) its like "Metal Gear Solid" and "Metal Gear Solid 2" + "MGS3". MGS1 was a legend in the gaming-historie, MGS2 was good. MGS3 like MGS1. So MGS2 was the weakest, but a great game ^^ "weakest" sounds so bad *-* that hurts ^^

I've posted the reason in another thread. The middle part of the movie is really weak and kinda gets you off. It felt unnecessary. Then it jumps to the final and out of nowhere an antagonist is being presented. It felt like a rushed ending.  The first half of the movie was great, but it seems they ran out of ideas of what to actually do with the characters. Or rather... the author had a beginning and an end already written down, but lacked good and solid ideas how to connect those two.

Wolf Children was pretty solid and entertaining through the whole movie, but the end was kind of a "jumping the shark" scenario. There was a built up to the storm and when it was over, it was nothing, at all. I fully understand the decision the children made in the end, but... I don't know.. i kinda wanted more...

I'm really interested in seeing Kimi no Na wa. I guess the main reason is, it jumped to first place on myanimelist.net on the top anime list.

Intel Core i7 8700K | 32 GB DDR 4 PC 3200 | ROG STRIX Z370-F Gaming | RTX 3090 FE| Crappy Monitor| HTC Vive Pro :3

Both are good, but for me they don't reach the levels of Mononoke or Laputa, and maybe Nausicaa.

I will have to check out "Your Name", seen a few of you mentioning it.

Mononoke is my favorite of all time :) Your Name is on my watchlist. I hope, the sales figures are good later in the west (and japan) :)
