Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Phil Spencer Says Xbox One Isn't As Big In Japan Due to Preferring Games Like Persona 5 or Nioh

Sadly, looking at the current japan market this looks like the best move for MS. There's much more potential to gain ground in other regions whether with new IPs or using other strategies.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

He is not wrong and i am glad he said it. Too many people jump on the "Race" train in their own conclusions. It's all about reaching demands. XBS is a good option for those who don't do Pc, so is PS4 but both are capable of drawing in Consumers on exclusives too or multiplat but then again not everyone wanna bother with Pc. Xbox should just drop Japan if they're actually doing anywhere from 1000 sales and under a week. As someone who bought Persona 5 day one on Japan's PSN, I can't see Xbox getting that Japanese support or being that interested with the sales they get. Even Metal Gear 5 didn't break a million on X1. I'd say FFXV will sell 5-6X as good on PS4 (It might not even break a million on Xbox). I agree with one of the guys that said they would have to end the 3rd party PS exclusive by default (Persona, Digimon, Odin Sphere, Tales, ect.). There's no point though, the games wouldn't sell enough on Xbox to justify reaching out to those Devs. On top of that would Japanese devs want to dedicate resources to see 5 figure sales? If FFXV sells under a million on Xbox would Square want to dedicate resources and time that could go to other things just for a 6 figure sales port for FFVII?

AAA PC ports have been selling better than Xbox ones for a while too. They need to focus on other things.

Just Drop Japan M$.

Sunset verdrive, struggled to sell 1m

Wuantum Break, 200k first month

Recore 50k

FH3 "best racing game in the history" as some claim, yet it only did 600k first weeks

The 3 games you listed was expected to have week sales. They wouldn't sold much better on PS4.

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

FFXV and a FFVII remake Xbox One version would more than pay for them self even if they had sub 1m sales in the region of say 500k-900k I'd expect more than that though. Even if you compare the ratio of Type-0 a spin off psp port of 970k on PS4 and 250k on Xbox One the time it took to make it avaliable on the Xbox One would be more than worth it and main entries in the FF series and the FFVII remake carry a lot more hype and interest and probably a very big marketing campaign and would more than cover the costs spent making it avaliable on Xbox One.

I disagree with the idea that Xbox should drop Japan. It's too important a region in terms of publishers and developers. No reason to lose even more support, not when the cost of shipping a few Xbox over is a drop in the ocean for Microsoft. Keeping a presence there is worthwhile.

If anything, I give them credit for that. It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft spends more effort communicating with Japanese developers and publishers than Nintendo does with western developers and publishers. Trying at least has a chance of paying off eventually.

Excuses! Do something about it you incompetent twat!

They wouldn't pay for themselves. Square wastes way more money than the average AAA dev (lets compare them to Konami and Square's less costly games) and one million copies isn't breaking even anymore modern day.  That Type 0 port costed practically nothing to make compared to the amount of money they spend on mainline Final Fantasy games.  Square Waited 10 years to finish FFXV, those costs aren't going to just go away.  They implied they needed 10 million to break even whether they damage controlled what they said or not.  The 1.5 million max is a drop in the bucket.

"The investments in a AAA game these days are huge and even if everyone of those two million people bought a copy each, most big games would not break even if they were next-gen exclusives."  Square published that game (Just Cause). Imagine how much more money they're going to waste on FFVII compared to Just Cause.

A little too late for this kind of thing. The Xbox One is 3 years old, if they start to focus on the Japanese market, it would take 1-2 years before the games come.

They sold over 60 thousands of Xbox One so far in Japan. I wonder what will be the number of Xbox One S released on Japan.

Drop it. Its not like Japan devs were really supporting them anyway. THe big guys like Capcom and Square will still make ports for the big games.
