FH2 did around 520k fw according to VGC and FM6 did around 440k according to VGC.

Its not an impressive number, but great nonetheless!Even though Im not a fan of the racing genre, its always great when an excellent game has good sales.

Whoa, I had no idea at all that Forza did such low numbers. Has it dropped substantially since the Xbox 360? I'm surprised it's a yearly franchise with those figures. I honestly assumed it would have a much higher baseline.

The downplay is real with this one. The last Forza game to sell as good as FH3 was FM5 and that was a launch game. FH3 will have legs and could possibly outsell NMS.

Eh, I wouldn't call it downplaying. The franchise is on a sales decline. Relatively speaking, it's not terrible, but its better sales days could potentially stay behind it.

Froza Horizon is not on a decline

VGC Numbers

- Forza Horizon on Xbox 360 = 2.02m

- Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One 1.37 + 360 0.85m = 2.22m

FH2 120k 1 week NPD sales

FH3 150k 1 week NPD sales

It's currently outpacing the sales of FH2 according to NPD numbers through physical and with FH3 been play anywhere and a ever increasing digital % I see no reason it won't outsell its predecessors.

The flip-side to this, however, is people shouldn't compare Horizon to Motosport, as historically, the latter appealed to a larger audience and debuts with larger numbers. 

The series has been in decline for the past few years but the thing is that Horizon has outsold the other Forza games in the past 3. The past few games have done between 400-600k in 1 month while FH3 had done at least 600k in 2 and a half weeks. That's really impressive for a Forza game. Also the downplay also comes from someone comparing Forza to a game that comes from a much popular genre. I'm referring to primetime comparing Forza to NMS.

 

Yeah the motorsports game has done better the horizon games but by comparing the new horizon game to the motorsport games and seeing the sales being close or more in favor of horizon says something. For an example with 3 week of tracking FM3 sold 770k while with 2 and a half weeks FH3 has sold over 600k, and the series has been in decline for many years. Its impressive to see the latest game doing so well compared the peak of the series and by saying otherwise would be downplaying.

That's a very nice number. 600+k in 2 weeks is pretty good. I'm personally waiting for Black Friday as I have a big backlog already, but it'll be the first time I pick up a Forza game. The really high reviews ought to interest new players like myself and contribute to the growth of the IP.
