If he did step down Clinton would pretty much win because it's far too late for the Republicans to pull a comeback unless something devastating happens to Clinton too. If Trump steps down then the RNC can pick a new candidate.

The backlash to Trump's comment comes from all angles including his own allies and even his wife so it's probably the worst you could ever get. While Clinton has done some pretty shady things it has not gotten no where near as much backlash from the public and the media as this. Or at the very least, there was no major call for Clinton to quit her campaign while this is the second call for Trump to quit.

Also she has been seen on stage recently with a know sexist and racist, there is talks she might even be appearing with him again this sunday, she really should choose better who she is seen talking with, it isn't doing her any favours.

As for the people asking Trump to step down... I think at this stage they are just doing it to save face, like if I was his friend or ally at this point, I would also be telling him to stop this before he goes on stage again, during the first debate he claimed he was smart for not paying taxes (before denying saying it less than an hour later) but this time around he might get backed into a corner and come out with even worse stuff, he has very little control of the voices in his head, last time the moderator couldn't stop them from flowing out of his mouth, this sunday it will be the same I fear for what he will say.

Because we actually have video evidence of Trump doing these things. The stuff Hillary's done seems to have only happened in the world of Breitbart.
