In FF IX, Kuja tried to destroy the crystal of Gaia so he could destroy the world. But the crystal is mentioned very late though.

Didn't FFXIII have crystals? I remember them being all over that game.

FF1 and 3 were all male, so yeah they were. Their remakes changed that though

FF always has crytals involved in some way, shape, or form, even if they do or are called different things.

I don't care if FF has an all male, all female, or mixed cast. It was never about that for me. It was the elaborate fantasy stories that the game led us on. Romance. Saving the world, etc.

I'm going to hold off on getting XV for now, I may wait for a master collection edition or something if they end up dropping a ton of DLC for it. Right now World of Final Fantasy is all that's on my radar.

FF11 and 14, the MMOs also have crystals.

Crystals are used for crafting. There are man made structures, that use crystal technology to do various stuff.
There are "natural/wild" crystals that basically manifest "life" in them. Some of which are near god like.
Beastmen also mine crystals for power, and use them to summon dieties and minor gods.

In ff14 your basically your blessed with divinity by the Mothercrystal.
Its why player characters become more powerfull than the "normal" npc like characters that populate the world.
