Forums - Gaming Discussion - Pokken Tournament has to date sold more than Street Fighter V

I'm not surprised. To be honest, I'm a Street Fighter fan since Street Fighter II on SNES, but I have zero interest in Street Fighter V so far. In fact, I'd rather play Street Fighter IV.

Also, the story mode was really bad.

I believe SFV has sold a lot more digitally than Pokken.

So we don't really know. But we can all agree SFV has been a sales disaster.

The fact that this is even a discussion shows what a colossal misfire this exclusive deal and development philosophy has been for Capcom LOL.

Really terribly handled game from the get go.

Also it doesn't help that their latest patch to stop people cheating in the game... installs a rootkit backdoor on your PC, very nice work capcom! Take that people trying to unlock fight money, now everyone who has the game has a capcom brand rootkit thanks to you guys! Tsk Tsk bad people.

Yes it has... well at least in VGC, Pokken deserved to be the best selling one anyways.

Well, SFV has probably sold better if we consider all platforms (PC+PS4), but still, that shows the effects of Capcom's medlings with the game.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

SFV... what a ride for that game. PC sales are pretty bad. Console sales are ok I guess.

It's a bummer because I really like the core gameplay. Plus it looks great. At least it's a lot more "complete" now since launch. There is a proper Story mode (sadly character stories are and will always be complete rubbish), vs CPU mode, Daily Missions to earn fight money, Trials, Demonstrations.

No Arcade mode still, but quite a lot of offline content if multiplayer isn't your bag. Survival mode seems to be pretty divisive in the community, with lots of people hating it primarily because you needed to finish it to unlock colours. At least you can buy colours with fight money now.

If you buy the disc version of the game now for PS4 prepare for a lot of downloading to get the game to it's current more "complete" state.

I think the initial install off the disk is somewhere in the region of 15gb my install of the game is now closer to 30gb in size, avoid if you have data caps. Well I mean you can play the vanilla SFV without applying patches.... but only offline.. which doesn't really exist in vanilla SFV so yeah there is that.

He was using Vgchartz numbers, to be fair. The fact that they're off by almost half is... interesting. That being said, yea, SFV's not doing well at all. They've said they're not going to release any additional editions of it, I wonder if they intend to stick to that. Pokken's doing ridiciculously well considering it's the first one and it's on the Wii U.

There might be an undertrack, there might not (we initially overtracked it), but different things are being compared here which makes it unfair to invoke the 'lol VGC numbers' meme.

- Capcom's Platinum sellers list includes PC and PS4 sales, both at retail and digitally. As of June 31st the total for Street Fighter V is still 1.4 million on that list.

- As of June 31st we have it at 733k on PS4 at retail. Digital will likely account for at the very least 20% of its sales on PS4. Add 29k PC retail sales to the figure. Then add in digital PC sales (Steam accounts for 180k+/- according to Steam Spy estimates, tho obviously it was lower at the end of June). Then add copies still on shelves. Not so far off 1.4 million at all I'd imagine. If we had its retail total ahead of Pokken's (866k) then we'd probably be overtracking it at retail again.

In short, I'm happy with where the figures are at right now, though I'm of course open to adjusting if new data comes along that suggests otherwise. Lots of titles where our figures can be heavily criticised, but I don't think this is one of them.

Seems fair enough, though if nothing else, this proves how neccesary digital sales tracking is becoming. 800k to 1.4m is quite a large gap, especially considering a good amount of people seem to think that VGChartz is 100% accurate.
