Forums - Gaming Discussion - Which Company Has Had the Best 1st Party Line Up This Generation? (Home Consoles)

?

Sony 164 38.05%

Microsoft 38 8.82%

Nintendo 211 48.96%

Ouya 18 4.18%

Total:431

Subjectively, i'm going for Nintendo, mainly due to the fact that the Wii U is the only console of this generation I own. But objectively, i think both Nintendo and Sony are certainly both up there in-terms of the quantity and quality of their 1st party software. I don't think Microsoft's 1st party lineup can square up against the other 2.

Despite these lists being severely incomplete Nintendo still takes the cake. Through sheer quantity and quality (although it has waned in the last 1.5 years with filler material).

It's a very subjective subject, but I'm voting Nintendo.

For me:
Sony
MS
Nintendo

It makes them good at individual slices of gaming, sure.  Like the Sony studio that makes the Baseball game or the studios that only make Military Shooters.  I'm sure Nintendo has platformers polished up better than anyone else in the industry.  If that's your thing then Nintendo is your clear choice.

What about all the other genres and settings?  Where are the choices?  What if you value those new experiences you mentioned?  What if you'd rather play something different and unique instead of Mario Kart 15 or another Mario platformer?  Nintendo simply leaves out most gamers.

Nintendo has become a specialty vendor.  That's my point.  They serve a narrow group of gamers only.  I'm not saying that's a bad thing or that it means they have a bad product, only that they aren't going to attract many new customers with that approach, maybe not even enough to combat natural turnover.  Where did Nintendo's new customers come from last gen?  Splatoon.  A new genre with new characters.

All I'm saying is that the Wii U lineup won't cut it on the NX if they want to grow market share.  It just won't.

I'd say there are hardly any genres that Nintendo doesn't support. Basically it's only sport sims and FPS, although they licensed some of these in the past. They even flirt with the horror genre and publish gory action titles from time to time. Nintendo is by far the most diverse developer/publisher.

Again I repeat - this is a very odd criteria. You choose "first part games", not "first part IP". Nor exclusives.

You chose a very specific criteria to get a very specific result.

Yep, this criteria is stupid. Does't make any sense (except to rule out some specific exclusive games). The only one that make sense is 'exclusives'.

Nintendo. But Wii U is still a dissapointment compared to previous consoles.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Entwined - Pixel Opus - 1st party studio,
Sony Santa Monica - Bound, Fat Princess Adventures, Unfinished Swan, Escape Plan, Journey, Flower, Flow

xdev - Until Dawn, Beyond two souls(PS4), heavy rain (PS4), Alienation, Resogun, Super Stardust Ultra
Bloodborne - Japan Studio

Also Considering Wii U was released a year early 2012 to PS4 2013, Sony First party were still releasing bulk load of games for PS3 in 2012 and 2013. But if it is about this gen then I don't see the point of remasters being on the list.

Ok thx ill add these games.

There's been way too many threads comparing owned ip, exclusives, published games. Why not try something different?

Nintendo, then MS and lastly Sony.

MS more than Sony?! Wow....

Matter of taste.

For example, I personally like Halo and Gears more than any of Sony 1st party offerings, so last gen for example I found 360's library better than PS3's.

Nintendo. No contest.
