Forums - Gaming Discussion - Predict How long will NX keep its 9th Gen lead over PS5/XBTwo??

Nintendo beats to it's own drum. Can it be considered a 9th generation console? Probably not. For discussions sake though...

It will explode out the gates if it is a handheld or hybrid. Should be able to hold off the competition for at least 2 years. We have no information about anything really though... Pretty much a stab in the dark,

Well first of all, I don't see why PS4 Pro wouldn't be included in comparison...
Just because Sony has chosen to impose "must also release on PS4 og" requirement doesn't mean much.
PS4 Pro looks set to be closest to Scorpio. "PS5" will be gen beyond that, equivalent to Scorpio 2.
Yeah, sure, Pro isn't as big of leap in performance. But neither is NX vs. Wii U, or Wii vs. GC.
So the question should be how long it will take or even IF will be able to surpass PS4 Pro.
And really, if NX isn't surpassing XBone/PS4og in performance, I don't see why it is a generation beyond them.
In which case, it should be compared to them in sales. To be fair for time scale, vs. Slim models only.

you're tlaking about "gained lead", what exactly is that? sales? or what? because if this thing sells more than the Wii U that's a miracle, so again, what kind of lead are you tlaking about? just time? if just time, who cares? do you think that Sony needs to release PS5 because Nintendo released a weak handheld hybrid weaker than the xb1? do you relaly think that Sony cares/is worried about that?

I dont know dude i dont think Sony is but it sure does sound like you are since your completly mis reading my post and trying to turn it into an attack on Nintendo.

you're topic doesn't make sense, what lead will Nintendo gain and keep with NX over PS5? NX is weaker than the Xbox One, do you understand what that means?

Gens are meaningless.

Lets see how long it takes before it beats the Xbox One in sales instead?

Also if the NX is getting 3rd party its getting the same games as the XB1 & PS4, so... what makes it a new gen?

I honestly dont consider it a 9th gen in practis.

Its a 9th gen in name only, without what normally comes with gens (hardware advantage over older gen hardware).

It wont have multiplats the other 2 wont have, and worse because its less powerfull than 8th gen competition, it will run things worse.

If it takes off, I think it'll win the generation. We're talking a portable and home console in one here. That's some serious fire power.

Generations aren't defined as anything other than a being an entirely new console. PS4 Pro is, per Sony's own words, just a PS4 with a little extra juice. They've said many times that it's not a next generation machine and that PS5 is coming. Scorpio, we don't know anything about yet. Microsoft could easily change gears (they've done so many times over the last few years) and call it a brand new console, ditching the entire Xbox One concept. All they've said is it'll be able to play Xbox One games... which is really just, backwards compatibility.

But, getting back to my point, a "gen" is defined by an entirely new machine... not an upgraded old one. The NX is a 9th generation console because of that. Power does not define a generation. The Wii was a 7th generation console even though it was no more powerful than a Gamecube.

But it's not, it's from current gen

If its just a meaningless title.... okay then. Its just the release order, fine.

However I would argue that then going "how long will NX keep its 9th gen lead over PS5/xbtwo" is wrong as well then.

Why? because its releaseing to compete against something "other" than PS5/XBtwo.

NX is going to comepete against 8th gen, not 9th.

Nintendo will probably have a short gen with the NX, and release another newer console, when PS5 & XBtwo comes out.

NX might never compete against the PS5 / XBTwo, at all.

Consider it's release centering between PS4Pro and XB1Scorpio, as well as the fact that it's not even been out 4 years, I don't think it's time yet to label anything "9th Gen".

I dont mean to be rude or anything, but is it really that hard to understand what a gen is?
