Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Ubisoft CEO: NX will put Nintendo ‘back in the race’

Ubisoft held a call with its shareholders today to alleviate concerns about a hostile takeover by Vivendi, but this also provided the chief executive officer with another opportunity to hype what Nintendo is up to with its next-generation gaming hardware. That system is due out in March, but we still knowalmost nothing about it. But Guillemot explained to its investors today that the NX has a lot of potential to return the House of Mario back to its former glory.

I believe Nintendo will be back in the race with the NX,” Guillemot said in French during the call (as first noticed by Chloé Woitier on Twitter).

First it was "Nintendo has learned its lesson from Wii U" (<notice the context NX was put in, compared to Wii U) now Ubi thinks NX will put Nintendo back in the race

Interesting...

I don't think it necessarily means head on war with MSony, eg releasing a 4k machine.  However, if we look at the mobile games Nintendo is releasing, that may cover the old HH segment, (younger crowd) and now Nintendo can focus its main energy into a home console.  Of course, down the line, I do expect a handheld component eg gamepad with wifi, but for now I'm starting to think a traditional, cartridge based home console with new gimmick will be the first iteration of NX, not an underpowered tablet.

Ubi seems like a happy 3rd party, more enthusiastic than they were about Wii U without question now. Would they be this thrilled with an Nintendo Shield?

A part of me is glad, I have no idea about a device I most likely would buy, unless it is the virtual boy 2. The wait would kill me.

Let's wait and see.

That's cool to hear. It means a lot coming from Ubisoft I think. They seem to have a nose for success. I cant tell you how many times I though one of their games would bomb hard and then it just surprised everyone with its sales.

Well Ubi has already single-handedly done more advertising for the NX than Nintendo did through the whole life cycle for the WiiU so that has to be a positive right?

How many comments promoting the NX has the Ubisoft CEO made so far?

"So all this tells us that the machine can have a great success, because it will bring to families a good machine. And this will be for gamers but also for all the social games that are generally sold on the Wii. Going after those two types of populations will give a good chance for that machine to have a great success."

Guillemot about the Wii U.

It's important to remember that he's saying this for the benefit of Ubisoft shareholders.  It means little until the NX actually releases and we get to see how Ubisoft plans to support it.  Ubisoft will turn on a dime depending on how the market responds.

The statements made about NX are much more bold than they were about Wii U.  Look at your quote "chance" to have great success vs. now _____

He's just saying that the market will be healthy and so Ubisoft will make more money thanks to the NX.

Really just reassuring the shareholders for his war against Vivendi, nothing to see here.

Dammit Nintendo, just show us the NX already so that we can all know what the hell Ubisoft is actually talking about!

And of course Ubisoft says these things since they've already planned games for the NX whereas many devs are going to wait and see how the NX turns out before investing.

I swear if the NX is something horrible then Ubisoft is full of ****.
